Lloyd Allen HenselFebruary 9, 1939 - March 24, 2011 Lloyd Allen Hensel, age 72, passed away on March 24, 2011 at his home north of Park Rapids, MN. Lloyd was born on February 9, 1939 to Rudolph and Frances (Christlieb) Hensel at the family farm in Osage Township, MN. He attended country school through 8th grade and later completed his GED. As a young man, Lloyd worked on his parent"s farm, drove milk truck and logged until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1961. He completed basic training in Fort Collins, Colorado and was stationed at Fort McPherson, Georgia where he met Virginia Moore. They were married on December 21, 1963 following his honorable discharge from the Army and were blessed with five children: Ginny, Linda, Barbara, Ken and Jim. Lloyd was a hard worker, enjoying a long career as a sheet metal worker, installing heating and ventilation systems throughout Minnesota. He first worked for Knapp & Grover and retired from Thielen Heating and Roofing of Brainerd, MN in 2004. Lloyd always had a love of farming. He farmed part time while working full time, mainly planting crops and a vegetable garden but he also raised cattle and chickens. Lloyd enjoyed playing cards, fishing and deer hunting. He was successful in getting his deer this past fall even as his health declined. He was a lifelong member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Park Rapids, serving on various boards and as an usher and greeter. He was also a member of American Legion Post 212, the Minnesota Dark House and Angling Association and Sheet Metal Local Union 10. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Virginia; children: Ginny (Tim) Ranisate, Linda (John) Eischens, Barbara (Lew Lambert) Hensel, Ken (Erin) Hensel and Jim (Marcy) Hensel; grandchildren: Curt (Ashley) Eischens, Samantha (Josh) DeVore, Rachel Eischens, Clayton Nickolauson, Hannah, Lizzie, Colin and Jack Hensel; great grandchildren: Isaac, Makia and Blake Eischens, Eli and Addie DeVore; brothers: Willis, Walter (Florence) and John; sisters: Marian Snelling, Lorraine (Jim) Wilmes, Sharon Yliniemi and Shirley DeMaris; sister-in-law, Betty Hensel; aunt, Betty Christlieb and numerous nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; infant grandson, Benjamin Hensel; two brothers, Marvin and Donald; one sister, Dorothy Amundson; five brothers-in-law: Arnold Yliniemi, Sumner Thompson, Leonard Amundson, Jim DeMaris, and Clarence Snelling and three sisters-in-law: Donna Hensel, Addie Hensel, and Brenda Hensel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN with Pastors James Neubauer, Tim Heinecke and Rick Hensel officiating. Casketbearers will be his nephews: Ron, Mike, Bob, Jeff, Ed and Earl Hensel. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M.
