Maydean was born on June 26, 1923 in Monticello, Iowa and was raised by Valentine and Ada (Anderson) Schmid. She attended country school near her home until her family moved to Blue Lake near Park Rapids, MN. Maydean married John Frohman on March 21, 1940. This union was blessed with 10 children. In search of steady employment, the Frohman"s made their home in a number of locations prior to settling on the Iron Range. They eventually settled in Park Rapids where Minnie started a babysitting service. Maydean was a loving wife and mother who devoted herself to doing the best she could with what little they had by cooking and baking, cleaning, and working late into the night sewing. She always made sure her children were clean and healthy. She sat up many nights with as many as 5 sick children. Maydean taught her daughters the household chores and the boys carried wood, water and helped in the garden. There was one year when she canned 1000 jars of produce to help get the family through the winter. Maydean made sure her children went to school to get a good education and attend Sunday school and confirmation class. Some days, she would get up early and check the weather and if it was right, the family would wake up to a packed lunch and a day full of fishing. She loved camping and fishing. Above all, Maydean trusted in the Lord and loved her family with all her heart.
