FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler officiating.VISITATION : 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the service on Friday.INTERMENT : Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, MN.SURVIVORS : His two daughters: Kathy Jean (Bill Louks) Schmit of Park Rapids and Kimberly Faith Rivers of Fargo, ND; his son, Robbie Numan Jr., of Sterling, VA; his two grandchildren: Troy Schmit and Amber Gran; his sister, Elaine Towner of St. Paul. ROBERT F.R. NUMANMarch 6, 1937 " April 11, 2011 Robert F.R. Numan, age 74 of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly a long time Park Rapids area resident, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Sanford Health Fargo Region Palliative Care Center in Fargo, ND. Bob was born on March 6, 1937 in St. Paul, MN to Robert Fabian and Ella (Krantz) Numan. At the age of 5 he went to live with Victor and Minnie Munson who farmed near Grove City, MN. He attended public school in Grove City and grew up helping on his foster parent"s farm. As a young man, Bob entered the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served during the Korean War. Following the war, Bob was stationed in Culpeper, VA where he met Peggy Somers. The two fell in love and were married. They were blessed with a son, Robbie Jr. After his honorable discharge in December of 1963, they moved to Crystal, MN, a suburb of Minneapolis where Bob attended the Dunwoody Institute where he continued his training in the machinist trade. After his graduation, Bob worked as a lathe operator for TimeSavers, Inc. of Crystal. On July 29, 1967, Bob was united in marriage to Verna Cunningham. This marriage was blessed with two daughters: Kathy Jean and Kimberly Faith. In 1970, Bob and his brother-in-law, "Digger" Cunningham partnered in operating the Skelly Gas Station in Park Rapids. Later, Bob and Verna returned to the Minneapolis area where they settled in New Hope. Bob worked as a concrete mason for the Bud Klatke Construction Company for a number of years. In 1975, they moved to New Munich, MN where they operated the B & V"s Bar for a time. Later, they returned to New Hope where Bob resumed his career working as a machinist for TimeSavers, Inc. until his early medical retirement. They returned to Park Rapids in 1993 where Bob enjoyed his retirement until the untimely death of Verna in 1998. Bob continued to make his home in Park Rapids with his special friend, Frieda Line, until failing health caused him to become a resident of the Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Bob was a long time member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 in Park Rapids and the Star of The North Marine Corps League of Park Rapids. He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters: Kathy Jean (Bill Louks) Schmit of Park Rapids and Kimberly Faith Rivers of Fargo, ND; his son, Robbie Numan Jr., of Sterling, VA; his two grandchildren: Troy Schmit and Amber Gran; his sister, Elaine Towner of St. Paul as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Verna, his sister, Doris and two brothers: Gordy and Merle. Funeral services are set for 11 AM Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Chaplain Vicki Marthaler of the Emmanuel Nursing Home officiating. His granddaughter, Amber Gran will sing a song she wrote for her grandpa called "Grandpa, I Remember". His grandson, Troy Schmit will share a eulogy. Casket bearers will be members of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post and his honorary casket bearers will be his nieces and nephews. Interment will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids. The Star of the North Marine Corps League will provide the military honors. Following the funeral a luncheon will be hosted by the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post Auxiliary. Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and again on Friday beginning one hour prior to the services.
