QUILLA DENA CARNELLFebruary 23, 1947 " April 17, 2011 Quilla Dena Carnell, age 64, a long time Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully passed from this life into eternity on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at St. Joseph"s Medical Center in St. Paul with her loved ones at her side, following a long battle with heart disease. Dena was born on February 23, 1947 in Pasco, WA to George and Shirley (Wortenburger) Mysterick. Her early years were spent in Washington State. Later, as a teenager, she moved to Park Rapids, MN where she completed her high school education. She was united in marriage to Bert Sanderson on March 10, 1969 in Spokane, WA. This union was blessed with six children: Wendy, Rubetta, Patrick, Cassie, Jarrett and Derrick. Dena devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her family in the Emmaville area, north of Park Rapids. On September 8, 1986, her life was fulfilled by her marriage to Ronald Lee Carnell, Sr. in Park Rapids. Their union was blessed with one daughter, Shandra Nicole. Dena and Ron made their home for a short time in Springfield, Ohio until returning to Park Rapids where they have made their home right up to the present time. Dena loved the outdoors. She was an avid deer hunter who braved the coldest winds and snows to spend all day in her unheated deer stand waiting for her buck to step out. She also enjoyed fishing the many nearby lakes. She had a profound love for animals; especially her horses and the wild raccoons she would tame into cuddly pets. For many years, Dena enjoyed raising a large garden into fruitful abundance to share with her family and friends. She also enjoyed raising colorful flowers into beautiful splendor for all to see and enjoy. Dena possessed a heart overflowing with nurturing kindness and loved her children, her step-children and her mixed grandchildren and great grandchildren with all her heart. Above all, Dena devoted her life to her husband and soul mate, Ron and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron of Park Rapids; her six children: Wendy Jensen of Superior, WI, Rubetta Chennaux of Park Rapids, Cassie (Andy) Myhre of Longview, WA, Jarrett (Rhonda) Sanderson of Sebeka, Derrick (Annette) Sanderson of Osage, MN and Shandra (Adam Hendrickson) Carnell of Menahga, MN; her three step-children: Ronald Lee (Sandra) Carnell, Jr. of Park Rapids, Shelly (Jeff) Lozner of Miami, FL and Angie (Andy) Symanietz of Park Rapids; her 35 grandchildren and l4 great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Dena was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Tina; her son, Patrick and 2 granddaughters: Amy Lynn and Tanisha Rose. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with the Reverend Darwin Soyring officiating. The soloist will be Dena"s daughter, Rubetta Chennaux who will sing, "The Rose". Recorded musical tributes will be: "Amazing Grace" performed by bagpipes, "When I Get Where I"m Going" and "Go Rest High On That Mountain". Interment will be made in the Lake Emma Cemetery north of Park Rapids. A potluck will be held at the Sportsman"s Club by Emmaville following the service. Visitation will be held beginning at noon on Friday at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
