NORMA MAY HENKEMay 21, 1925 " July 6, 2011 Norma May Henke, age 86, a long time Park Rapids, MN area resident, passed away on July 6, 2011 in Park Rapids with her loved ones at her side. Norma was born on May 21, 1925 near Vashti, ND to Roy and Emma (Norby) Hall. She attended country school in Vashti and then went on to attend high school in Jamestown, ND and Sauk Centre, MN. She was united in marriage to William Remily on November 26, 1943. This union was blessed with five children: Darrel, Carol who died in infancy, Sharon, Rhonda and Mary. Norma dedicated herself to making a warm and loving home for her children. On January 26, 1961, she was united in marriage to Wilbert "Rusty" Henke. In 1963, they purchased the Rice Bay Resort on Fifth Crow Wing Lake near Nevis which she and Rusty operated for 29 years. Rusty passed away in 2000. She married Les Guida on November 25, 2003. They enjoyed their lives together until Les"s death in 2008. Norma had a very strong faith and was an active member of the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset. She was a voracious reader and spent time in her Bible each day. She loved to write and was especially appreciated for her wonderful letters and poetry. For 20 years, Norma had enjoyed spending winters in Rockport, Texas where she was an avid birdwatcher. She loved to travel throughout the United States. Above all, Norma devoted her life to family and friends who she loved with all her heart. Norma was preceded in death by her husbands; her infant daughter, Carol; her granddaughter, Dawn Anderson who died in 2011 and her three brothers: Harlan, Bill and Roy Jr. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. The organist will be Constance Shubert and the soloist will be Randy Anderson. Congregational hymns will be: "Abide With Me", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Nearer My God To Thee". The casket bearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons: Todd Sanquist, Scott Thompson, Jeremy Nelson, Anthony Remily, Brandon Anderson, Jordan Anderson, John Holler and Jacob McCuskey. Interment will be made in the Henrietta Cemetery south of Dorset. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, July 8th at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and at the church on Saturday beginning one hour prior to the services. A luncheon will be hosted by the First English Lutheran Church following the service.
