MONICA MAE KALISHNOVEMBER 30, 1969 ~ JULY 20, 2011 Monica Mae Kalish, 41, formerly of Park Rapids, died unexpectedly at her home in Corpus Christie, TX the morning of July 20th. She had just begun chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, which had returned after 12 years in remission. Monica was born November 30, 1969 in Superior, WI. She was a graduate of Blaine High School and the Minneapolis Technical Institute, from which she earned a Associate of Arts degree in Cosmetology. A 17-year Park Rapids resident, she worked as a beautician for Carol"s Shear Pleasure and the Intensive Hair Unit in Park Rapids until forced to retire from that profession during her first series of breast cancer treatments. She was also employed by the Park Rapids American Legion, Art"s Place and Casey"s convenience store. Monica is survived by her father and stepmother, Kenneth K. and Lila L. Kalish of Park Rapids; her mother and stepfather, Judith M. and Timothy Soderlund of Hudson, WI; sister Karen K. Eischens of Coon Rapids; brother Kenneth M. (Jillian) Kalish of Brooklyn Park; daughter Schandra M. Freyholtz and granddaughter Alyse Freyholtz of St. Cloud; son Dalton W. Hall of Corpus Christie, TX; aunts Jill M. (Gary) Laberdie-Maranowicz of Superior, WI and Janice (Walter) Engelking of Brooklyn Center; uncles Timothy (Diane) and Tom (Janette) Laberdie, both of Superior, WI; step-sister, Aimee Soderlund of River Falls, WI; significant other, Marcus Hall of Corpus Christie, TX and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Maryalice Kalish of Duluth, Albert and Gail Buerkley of Park Rapids, George and Joyce Laberdie and William and Dorothy Soderlund, all of Superior WI. A memorial celebration of Monica"s life will be held beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at the Park Rapids Eagles Club. The family wishes to thank Tim Pearson of Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids for his advice and assistance. Inurnment will take place in Superior, WI at a date to be determined.
