FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN with Father Thomas Friedl officiating.VISITATION : 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.INTERMENT : St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Cemetery, Park Rapids, MNSURVIVORS : Her nine surviving children: Irene (Les) Bridger of Osage, Carolyn Gulbranson of Embarrass, MN, Arthur Huewe of Park Rapids, MN and Chuck (Virginia) Huewe also of Park Rapids, MN, Stanley (Anne) Huewe of Virginia, MN, Marilyn Kokal of Iron, MN, Rita Huewe of Harlingen, Texas, Rodney (Kim) Huewe of Virginia, MN and Delores Smith of Eveleth, MN; 25 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; her sisters, Delores and Sr. Rose Mary and her brother, Fred. OLIVIA MARIE HUEWEJune 24, 1923 " August 16, 2011 Olivia Marie Huewe, age 88 of Park Rapids, MN, peacefully entered eternity on Tuesday morning, August 16, 2011 at St. Joseph"s Area Health Services with her loved ones at her side. Olivia was born on June 24, 1923 near St. Rosa, MN to Herman and Rose (Whesler) Korte. It was in this same area that she attended Catholic School and attended mass each morning before her classes began. She was a talented athlete and served as the pitcher of the local women"s softball team. On June 30, 1942, Olivia was united in marriage to Edward J. Huewe at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose, MN. This union was blessed with 11 children. The young couple dairy farmed near New Munich until buying a farm near Blackduck, MN in February of 1951 and moving there. Olivia was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade breads, baking over 42,600 loaves for her family over her lifetime. Her homemade venison sausage and pumpkin pies were family favorites. In addition to caring for her family, Olivia worked along side her husband in caring for their livestock, milking the cows daily and putting in long days in the field raising the crops. She also maintained a flock of several hundred chickens, selling eggs and broilers. During the construction season, Ed worked off the farm and was only home on weekends for many years, Olivia with the help of her children, largely ran the farm. Each spring she looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden which she nurtured into fruitful abundance to can for her large family. As an energetic homemaker, Olivia sewed much of the clothing her children wore to school each day. She loved music and taught herself how to play the harmonica. When work wasn"t as demanding during the winter months, Olivia enjoyed making heavy quilts for her family and friends. In November of 1997, Ed and Olivia moved to Park Rapids to be closer to their children. They attended the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church faithfully. She was very interested and disciplined in her nutritional health. Above all, Olivia devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who she loved with all her heart. Olivia will be lovingly remembered by her nine surviving children: Irene (Les) Bridger of Osage, Carolyn Gulbranson of Embarrass, MN, Arthur Huewe of Park Rapids, MN and Chuck (Virginia) Huewe also of Park Rapids, MN, Stanley (Anne) Huewe of Virginia, MN, Marilyn Kokal of Iron, MN, Rita Huewe of Harlingen, Texas, Rodney (Kim) Huewe of Virginia, MN and Delores Smith of Eveleth, MN; 25 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren; her sisters, Delores and Sr. Rose Mary and her brother, Fred. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; her sons, Vernon and James and 12 siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN with Father Thomas Friedl officiating. The Alleluia Choir will provide the music. Following the service, a luncheon will be provided by the church for all in attendance. Interment will be made in the St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
