BEAULAH F. SCOUTON-HAMMJune 25, 1921 " August 16, 2011 Beaulah F. Hamm, age 90, of Park Rapids, MN, passed into eternity on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids with her loved ones at her side. Beaulah was born on June 25, 1921 near Shields, North Dakota as the first of nine children to Floyd and Esther Sharp. At the age of two, she moved with her family to a farm west of Wadena, MN. Her family then moved near Hewitt where she attended country school. She was united in marriage to John Scouton on April 21, 1937 in Bessemmer, MI. This union was blessed with three children: Eleanor, James and Leslie. The young couple moved to Duluth, MN where they made their home for a few years before returning to Hewitt where they farmed until 1947. They then moved to the Nevis/Akeley area where they made their home for many years near Badoura. Beaulah worked along side her husband in caring for the livestock and working long days in the fields raising the crops needed to feed their livestock. In addition, for over 25 years, Beaulah worked at the Badoura Tree Nusery planting seedlings, weeding and transplanting trees. John preceded Beaulah in death on May 8, 1959. She married her neighbor, George Hamm in 1961. Beaulah will be long remembered for her delicious home made rice pudding, boiled raisin cake, breads and candy. She loved to work with her hands sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren. Each spring she would look forward to planting a large vegetable garden which she nurtured into fruitful abundance to share with her family and friends. She always enjoyed dancing and later in life took up fishing with her husband, George. She and George made their home near Badoura until the fall of 1972 when they purchased a home on the south side of Park Rapids. She cared for George for some time as he was bedridden before going to the nursing home. He preceded her in death in 1980. Beaulah subscribed to numerous area newspapers which she read voraciously each week. She enjoyed attending garage sales and hunting for treasures at the Bearly Used Store. She always enjoyed following the activity on her police scanner. She was proud to have been a World War I Veterans wife. Beaulah was a woman of faith and recently had attended the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids. Above all, Beaulah devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who she loved with all her heart and had considered her greatest accomplishment in life.
