JACK LOUKSNovember 18, 1948 ~ August 23, 2011 Jack Louks, age 62 of Park Rapids, MN woke up in Heaven on Tuesday morning, August 23, 2011. Jack was born on November 18, 1948 in Owatonna, MN to Lawrence and Helen (Dimler) Louks. He spent his boyhood years living near Itasca State Park where he attended the Klier country school near his home through the 8th grade and then went on to attend high school in Park Rapids from where he graduated with the Class of 1968. As a boy, Jack played guitar in the Louks family band throughout the Park Rapids " Detroit Lakes areas. During high school, Jack worked at the Itasca State Park. In 1969, he entered the United States Army where he served his country as a Staff Sergeant and had served a tour in Vietnam. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1971, he made his home in Madison, WI where he worked in security and as a maintenance supervisor. In the early 1970"s he was married to Debra Duerst. They were blessed with one daughter, Mariah. Shortly thereafter, Jack moved to Sturgis, SD where he met his best friend, Annie Marie Luther, who had also grown up in Park Rapids. They were united in marriage on August 14, 1983 in Whitewood, SD. They made their home in Bemidji until 1995 when they moved to Park Rapids where they could be closer to Annie"s parents. Jack did a variety of construction jobs until his retirement in 2008. Jack loved the outdoors; especially when he could be hunting or fishing with his brothers and friends. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with Annie and they took some memorable trips together. Jack enjoyed people and especially enjoyed playing cards and competitive darts and pool. He was very talented in working with his hands doing all types of wood working projects for Annie. He had a profound love for animals, especially his numerous cats and watching his favorite westerns on T.V. He was a voracious reader who loved to read everything he could get his hands on. Above all, Jack devoted his life to his precious Annie who he loved with all his heart. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Annie of Park Rapids, MN; his daughter, Mariah Ruhland of Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren, Zoe, Leo and Kaia; 3 brothers: Scott (Betty) Louks of Mandan, ND, Tom Louks of Olympia, WA and Jim (Penny) Louks of Spearfish, SD; 7 nieces and nephews; as well as other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Gary and Tony and his parents-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN with Pastor Art Wood officiating. Special music will be "On Eagles Wings", "I Can Only Imagine", "In the Sweet By and By" and "When I Get Where I"m Going". Casket bearers will be: Terry Smart, Dan Chambers, Barry Chambers, Karl Greniger, Albert Louks and Don Strege. Honorary casketbearers will be his family and friends. Interment will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Star of the North Marine Corps League. Visitation will be held from 5 " 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
