Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids, MN.VISITATION : 5-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.INTERMENT : Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, MNSURVIVORS : His wife, Phyllis; 2 sons: Kirk (Kathy) Brock and Kent (Pam) Brock all of Park Rapids, MN; 8 grandchildren: Bridgette Smith, Korey Brock, Kristen Zemek, Brittney Brock, Johnnie Weller, Steve Weller, Jordan Boettcher and Kayla Brock; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Sharon Lindvall of Little Fork, MN. KENNETH BRUCE BROCKSeptember 17, 1932 ~ September 22, 2011 Kenneth "Ken" Brock, age 79 of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at his home with his loved ones at his side. Kenneth Bruce Brock was born on September 17, 1932 in Des Moines, IA to Bruce and Birmah (Lathrop) Brock. When he was a young teenager, Ken moved with his family to the Park Rapids area where they owned and operated the Alberts Bay Resort on Fishhook Lake. Ken attended high school in Park Rapids until he entered the Army in 1951. He was an Artillery Forward Observer in the Korean War with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to Park Rapids. On June 6, 1953, Ken married Phyllis Heimark in Walker, MN. The young couple moved to Newton, IA in 1954. Ken and Phyllis were blessed with 2 sons: Kirk and Kent. Together, they created the "Jolly Wagon" ice cream vending company and sold franchises across the Midwest, while operating their own "Jolly Wagons" on the streets of Newton. They also started "Kens Cue Centre" and "Kens Sport Shop". In 1968, they moved back to Park Rapids where Ken went into Real Estate with his father-in-law, William Heimark. He was also the Deputy County Assessor for Hubbard County. He finished his working career at Wonewok Conference Center, retiring in 1991. Ken was a very creative inventor and designer of many things; always having something new for show and tell. He enjoyed working in his wood working shop. He loved hunting and sharing his knowledge and had many true stories to share with all; from bear hunting with a bow to his old trapping days. Ken was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. He loved being with his family and friends. Ken always had a smile and a firm hand shake that was very important. Kenneth will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis; 2 sons: Kirk (Kathy) Brock and Kent (Pam) Brock all of Park Rapids, MN; 8 grandchildren: Bridgette Smith, Korey Brock, Kristen Zemek, Brittney Brock, Johnnie Weller, Steve Weller, Jordan Boettcher and Kayla Brock; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Sharon Lindvall of Little Fork, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 30, 2011 at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids, MN with Pastor Lee Kantonen officiating. The organist will be Linda Szuszitzky. Bill Lundsten will be the vocalist and will sing "Amazing Grace". Congregational hymns will be: "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Urnbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary urnbearers will be the Current and Retired Employees of the Wonewok Conference Center. A luncheon will be hosted following the service at the American Legion in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN.
