FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 10, 2011 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN with Father Thomas Friedl officiating.VISITATION : 5-8:00 P.M.; with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.INTERMENT : Green Valley Cemetery, Menahga, MNSURVIVORS : His beloved best friend, Ione Katchie; his 10 children: LaDonna (Curt) Pope, Marvin (Joanne), Ken (Sandy), Glen (Kathy), Barb (Al) Hanson, Wayne (Verdell), Al, Joe (Jamie), Skip (Julie) and Bruce (Marlo); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. LEON "SWEDE" SHEPERSKYOctober 17, 1926 ~ October 6, 2011 Leon "Swede" Shepersky, age 84 of Menahga, MN passed away on Oct. 6, 2011 at the Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, ND. Leon was born on Oct. 17, 1926 to Leon and Nettie (VanUren) Shepersky in Clinton, MN; one of 15 children. Leon married Valada "Sis" Loesch on January 15, 1947 in Evansville, IN. This union was blessed with ten children: LaDonna, Marvin, Ken, Glen, Barb, Wayne, Al, Joe, Skip and Bruce. Leon resided in the Menahga area but then moved to the Iron Range where he worked for the iron ore mines. The family then moved back to Menahga and began farming. In 1986, Leon endured the heartache of losing his precious wife, Sis. Leon loved to be outdoors, especially when he could be fishing, hunting or gardening. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and was always up for a good argument. Above all, Leon devoted his life to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. Leon is survived by his beloved best friend, Ione Katchie; his 10 children: LaDonna (Curt) Pope, Marvin (Joanne), Ken (Sandy), Glen (Kathy), Barb (Al) Hanson, Wayne (Verdell), Al, Joe (Jamie), Skip (Julie) and Bruce (Marlo); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 1 sister; 1 brother; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife and mother of his children, Valada (Sis); 2 grandchildren and twin great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 10, 2011 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN with Father Thomas Friedl officiating. Casketbearers will be: Gene Suvanto, Rick Knobloch, Scott Marjama, Dennis Wright, Charlie Newhouse and Danny Warmbold. Honorary casketbearers will be: Lyle, Paul, John, Harold, Duane, Mark, Leo, Walter and Edward Shepersky. A luncheon will be hosted for all to attend following the service at the church. Interment will be held in the Green Valley Cemetery near Menahga, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
