NANNY KOITILAFebruary 14, 1921 ~ October 10, 2011 Nanny Koitila, age 90 of Menahga, MN passed away on Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN. Nanny was born on February 14, 1921 to Matt and Anna (Jurmu) Koitila in New York Mills, MN. Nanny was raised in the New York Mills area where she attended public school. She began her working career as a telephone operator in New York Mills until she moved to Minneapolis, MN and continued in the same career for many more years. Nanny eventually decided to move to Menahga, MN to care for her ailing parents. She also started working at the local Co-op in Menahga. Nanny was a wonderful gardener. Every year she would plant and raise the most beautiful flower garden. She also enjoyed planting and caring for her vegetable garden. Nanny will be missed by all who knew her. Nanny will be lovingly remembered by her nieces: Millie (Frank) Donnay, Carolyn (Dennis) Cottrell, Nancy (Jim) Tumberg, Linda (Tom) Keskitalo, Ethel (Lyle) Guss, Dolly (Erve) Jackson; her nephews: Martin (Connie) Nevala and Bill (Marie) Niska; many other great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Aunie, Esther, Ellen and Hildur; brothers: Walter and Eino and nephew, John Niska. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home Activity Room in Menahga, MN with Pastor Dennis Hannu officiating. The organist will be Betty Samuelson. Tom Ellingson will be the vocalist and will sing "In the Sweet By and By" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Casketbearers will be: Martin and Connie Nevala, Linda and Tom Keskitalo, Nancy and Jim Tumberg and Carolyn and Dennis Cottrell. Honorary casketbearers will be Millie and Frank Donnay. Interment will be held in the Menahga City Cemetery in Menahga, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the nursing home on Thursday.
