MEMORIAL SERVICES : 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Osakis, MN.VISITATION : One hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.SURVIVORS : His wife, Peggy; his children: Jesse (Christina) Spiering, Heather Spiering, Shawn Spiering, Jacob Spiering and Bethany Spiering; his step-children: Larry (Tawnya) Rice, Justin Rice, Jesse Rice and Victoria (Bob) Nurmi; his grandchildren: Hailey and Chloe Spiering, Michael Rice, Reyna, Carlina, Conway and Cheyenne Rice; nephews: Rick Spiering and Jeffrey Spiering; his niece, Lisa Poole. CHARLES "JIM" SPIERINGJuly 9, 1947 ~ November 20, 2011 Charles "Jim" Spiering, age 64 of New York Mills, MN formerly of Osakis, MN passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at his home. Charles James Spiering, better known to everyone as Jim, was born in Osakis, MN at home on July 9, 1947 to Raymond and Bernadine (Larson). He served in the United States Army from October 18, 1966 until October 3, 1968. During his last year, he was stationed in Fairbanks, AK to help after major flooding. He received medals for good conduct and marksmanship. Jim was united in marriage to Peggy Hare on March 21, 1994 in Soda Springs, ID. They made their home in Judd, ND and owned a bar for a short time before moving back to Minnesota. They had 2 children together, Jacob and Bethany, and planted roots in New York Mills, MN. Jim drove a semi over the road and logging for many years and later made his own company, Northern Transport, which he drove for and operated until 2010. During his years driving truck, he hauled just about everything there was from pigs to peppers. He enjoyed horses to no end. He raised his first horse in his mother"s garage in Osakis. He also had a hand in every aspect of horse ownership. He bred, raised and trained at different times. He enjoyed trail riding with family and friends. He was a member of the Trailblazers Saddle Club in Osakis for many years and participated in events. He was diagnosed with cancer in November of 2010. He had put up a long, hard fight before the Lord asked him to come home. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He always tried to help people or teach them how to do something if he could. He always said if you didn"t learn something during the day, it was a wasted day. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Peggy; his children: Jesse (Christina) Spiering, Heather Spiering, Shawn Spiering, Jacob Spiering and Bethany Spiering; his step-children: Larry (Tawnya) Rice, Justin Rice, Jesse Rice and Victoria (Bob) Nurmi; his grandchildren: Hailey and Chloe Spiering, Michael Rice, Reyna, Carlina, Conway and Cheyenne Rice; nephews: Rick Spiering and Jeffrey Spiering; his niece, Lisa Poole; many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Osakis, MN. Clair Erickson is the vocalist and will be singing "Amazing Grace" and "Rock of Ages". Honorary casketbearers will be Jim"s close friends, Colby Judd and Dave Leritz. Military Honors will be provided by the George H. Elliott V.F.W. Post #7902 and the Army National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
