SHIRLEY ANNETTE GRANGRUTHDecember 17, 1939 ~ January 31, 2012 Shirley Annette Grangruth, age 72 of Hackensack, MN., was called to her final resting place on Tuesday January 31, 2012. Shirley was born to Arvid and Amelia Suvanto on Dec. 17, 1939 in Green Valley Township of Becker County, were she grew up on the family farm. Shirley attended country school in Midway and after entering high school in Menahga she became the "Snow Ball Queen." She was also known for her immense love of yodeling. Shirley was united in marriage on June 15, 1957 to Armas Grangruth who preceded her in death. This marriage was blessed with nine children: Darrell, Jeff, Maria, Curtis, Steve, Armas Jr., Denise, Chris and Diane. After living in California, they moved back to Minnesota and eventually to Menahga. Shirley spent most of her early adult years caring for and raising their children. She loved picking berries with her mother and sisters. She enjoyed her seasonal jobs during the holidays making Christmas wreaths in Menahga. In recent years Shirley loved the running and laughter of small children and would invite them over for cookies. Another past time was bird watching. She was also famous for telling bear stories to her grandchildren. In her later years, Shirley made sure she kept the family informed on world affairs!! Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Arvid Suvanto and Amelia (Suvanto) Maaninga, two of her great grandchildren, Alexis and Colton Melendrez, brothers, Donald, Elmer and Alvin E. Shirley is survived by her children; Darrell Grangruth (Theresa) of Menahga, MN., Jeff Grangruth of Reno, NV., Maria Grangruth of Reno, NV., Curtis Grangruth (Patricia) of Wadena, MN., Steve Grangruth of Fort Collins, CO., Armas Grangruth Jr. (Jan) of Menahga, MN., Denise Bruns (Mitch) of Carson City, NV., Chris Grangruth (Tracy) of Menahga, MN., and Diane Kraabel (Darren) of Tullahoma, TN. Four sisters: Lillian Koskie of Menahga, MN., Hazel Schleicher (Richard) of Park Rapids, MN., Doris Suvanto of Shakopee, MN., Margaret Grangruth of Menahga, MN., also seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Shirley"s memory will be in our hearts forever and ever. Memorial services will be held on Saturday February 5, 2012, 11:00 A.M. at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, Officiating Pastor Dick Jorgenson. Spring Interment at the Green Valley Cemetery, Menahga, MN. Visitation is 1 hr. prior to service at the funeral home. Lunch will be held at the VFW Legion Hall in Menahga. Assisting the family with arrangements was the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home.
