WILMAR M. "Bill" WOLFFOctober 30, 1920 " March 5, 2012 Wilmar "Bill" Wolff, age 91 of Redwood City, CA formerly of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012. Wilmar M. "Bill" Wolff was born on October 30, 1920 on his grandparent"s farm near Park Rapids, MN to Arthur A. and Hulda C. (Madsen) Wolff. He attended public school in Park Rapids, graduating with the Class of 1937 from the Park Rapids High School. As a young man, Bill gained employment working at the Park Theatre until 1939 when he moved to International Falls and assumed the position of assistant manager for both the Border Theatre and the Falls Theatre. In October of 1942, Bill went to work for the Minnesota-Ontario Paper Company. In August of 1942, Bill enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he spent much of his tour of duty stationed at the Coast Guard Headquarters in Seattle, WA working in the communications department. Bill also served on the Aleutian Islands, the Marshall Islands and the Gilbert Islands in the South Pacific and also on the Hawaiian Islands where he was stationed when the Japanese surrendered ending World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge in March of 1946, Bill made his home in Tacoma, WA where he began a career in banking. He worked for the National Bank of Washington from 1946 " 1959. Bill then began working for the Wells Fargo Bank in Redwood City, CA in a career that spanned over 26 years. He worked as a loan officer for many years. During his last five years at the bank, he worked as a personal banker and had a client list of over 500 customers who called on him seven days per week. After a very dedicated and successful career in banking, Bill retired on February 1, 1986. During his retirement years, Bill became a very active volunteer with the San Mateo Mental Health Association Friendship Centers. He dedicated much energy, time and commitment to this fine organization. Bill had a profound love for the arts; especially, music, theatre and motion pictures. As a young man, Bill learned how to play the organ and grew in his level of skill and talent to become the organist at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids for a number of years. Above all, Bill devoted his life to his family, his friends and his adopted family at the San Mateo Mental Health Association. Bill will be lovingly remembered by many cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. At Bill"s request, memorials are preferred to the San Mateo Mental Health Association Friendship Centers. Memorial envelopes are available at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Reverend Tim Heinecke officiating. Interment will be made in the Wolff family plot located in the Greenwood Cemetery. The Star of the North Marine Corps league will provide the military honors. Visitation will be held from 12-2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids.
