Adelyn "Addie" E. Harvala, 76 died Friday May 4th at Essentia in Fargo ND. Addie was born Aug 17, 1935 in Osage MN to Hugo B and Lila (Yoki) Harvala. She was a graduate of Frazee High School where she enjoyed science and chemistry. In 1954 she moved to the big city of Minneapolis where she worked as a bank teller and a shoe model for Dayton"s Department store. She earned her Certificate of Accounting from the International Accounting Society, and worked as a bookkeeper first for Twin City Bedding Co., then Del Nelson"s Furniture. After leaving retail she worked as a bookkeeper for non-profits including churches, United Methodist Credit Union and a charter school.Addie is most remembered for the way she would open her home and heart to those coming from the "country" to get their start in the "city". Over the years she was home for seventeen individuals who came for just a few months, to those who stayed for a year or more. After retirement she returned to Park Rapids in 2004. She resided at River Heights Apartments where she made many new friends and was part of a close knit community. Addie was a ferocious reader and would often read the same book many times. She loved flower gardens, recipes and hats.Addie is survived by her daughter ConnieMae (David) Cooper, three grandchildren, Maija (Tom) Klees, Davette (Jamie) Kohnen and Keith Cooper, two great grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters Floyd (Irene) Harvala, Menahga MN, Jean (Gordon) Salmela Menahga MN, Judy (Don) Henderson Edina MN, Harvey (Priscilla) Harvala Osage, MN, Joe (Pam) Harvala Park Rapids MN, Connie (Richard) Kovala Osage MN, and Jacob Harvala Hayward CA, along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces-nephews and greatgrandneieces-nephews other relatives and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Hugo B. and Lila Harvala.Memorial Service: Sat. May 12th 2:00 at Pickeral Lake Apostolic Lutheran Church Wolf Lake MN with a visitation at 1:00. A reception will follow the service. Internment: Pickeral Lake Cemetery.
