FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids, MN.VISITATION : 5-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.INTERMENT : White Oak Cemetery, Chamberlain, MNSURVIVORS : Her two sons: J. Edward (Dolores) Dvorak of Chamberlain, MN and Allan Charles (Geraldine) Dvorak of Pickering, Ontario, Canada; her four much loved grandchildren and her nine precious great grandchildren. MARIE JOSEPHINE DVORAKOctober 30, 1912 " September 26, 2012 Marie Josephine Dvorak, age 99 of Pickering, Ontario, Canada, formerly of the Park Rapids-Akeley, MN area, peacefully entered Heaven"s Gate on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at the Scarborough Centennary Hospital in Toronto.Marie was born on October 30, 1912 to Charles and Antonie Hanzlik in Chicago, IL. She graduated from the Joseph E. Gary Grammar School and the Carter Harrison High School in Chicago. Marie served as Captain of the All American Basketball Team at the Blessed Agnes Catholic Church in Chicago as a young woman. She was also an active tennis player and loved to roller-skate. She was employed as a legal secretary at a law office in Chicago"s loop and also as an executive secretary in the Parent Department of Sears, Roebuck & Co. She was united in marriage to Joseph E. Dvorak on September 12, 1936 in Chicago. Two sons were born to this union: Edward and Allan. Marie dedicated herself to making a warm and loving home for her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious hasenpfeffer with dumplings and her homemade hoska sweet breads and her tasty fruit dumplings. Marie served as Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack # 306 for many years. In 1959, she and her family moved to Westchester, IL where they made their home for nine years. While there she was employed as a secretary for a Savings and Loan Association. In 1967, she and Joe moved to Akeley, MN where she gained employment with the USDA Forest Service in Walker, MN for a time. Marie was a faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids where she and Joe were welcoming greeters and were also members of the 50+ Club. For many years, Marie taught Vacation Bible School at the White Oak Chapel in Chamberlain, MN. She loved to knit and crochet and work on puzzles. Marie enjoyed working outdoors in her garden raising her vegetables into fruitful abundance and her flowers into colorful splendor. She and Joe moved into Park Rapids in 2003. Her life was deeply saddened by the death of her husband and soulmate, Joe in 2006. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: J. Edward (Dolores) Dvorak of Chamberlain, MN and Allan Charles (Geraldine) Dvorak of Pickering, Ontario, Canada; her four much loved grandchildren and her nine precious great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters and a grandson.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at the White Oak Cemetery in Chamberlain, MN.
