FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids, MN.VISITATION : 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday October 24, 2012 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and 1 hour prior to service on Thursday at the church.INTERMENT : Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, MN.SURVIVORS : Her husband, George of Park Rapids; her son, Gary and wife Cindy Tapper of Sun Prairie, WI; her sister, Ruby Becker of Park Rapids. BETTY M. TAPPERApril 30, 1931 " October 21, 2012 Betty M. Tapper, age 81, a long time Park Rapids, MN area resident, was promoted into Glory on Sunday evening, October 21st, 2012 in the peaceful assurance of her salvation, with her loved ones at her side while Betty was hospitalized at St. Joseph"s Area Hospital in Park Rapids.Betty was born in South Dakota to Fred and Bertha Pollworth. As a small child, Betty moved with her family to the Menahga, MN area where they farmed. Later they moved to a farm west of Park Rapids. It was there that Betty attended country school near her home and grew into adulthood. As a young woman, Betty gained employment at Ringer"s Manufacturing in Park Rapids. On December 10, 1949, she was united in marriage to George L. Tapper in Park Rapids. This union was blessed with a son, Gary Lee who was born on January 8th, 1951. Betty was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious home cooking and baking. Her homemade pie crusts and donuts were especially appreciated by all. Betty and George were charter members of the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids. The first organizational meetings and some of the first church services were held in their home. Betty remained active in the church as long as her health allowed. She loved singing in the choir and being part of the worship services and Bible studies. She had also been involved with the TOPS organization in Park Rapids for many years. In the mid-1970"s, Betty began selling Christian books in the flower shop across from the hospital. Later, she set up shop in the garage along side their home on east hwy 34 in Park Rapids where she expanded her business into selling office supplies. She sold the business in 1988. For many years Betty sang with some other dear friends in a women"s gospel sextet called "The Grace Notes" throughout the Park Rapids area. Betty loved the outdoors and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds that graced their property. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed playing both the piano and organ. Above all, Betty devoted her life to her faithful husband and soulmate, George who has been a tireless caregiver to Betty during her years of declining health and her son, Gary and daughter-in-law, Cindy who she loved with all her heart.Her memory will be lovingly treasured by her husband for these past 63 years, George of Park Rapids; her son, Gary and wife Cindy Tapper of Sun Prairie, WI; her sister, Ruby Becker of Park Rapids as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ruth and three brothers: Albert, Roy and Fred.Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids with the Reverend Marty Giese and Reverend Abe Cardosa officiating. The organist will be Jan Henderson. The special music will be provided by Bill and Jan Lundsten who will sing, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "What A Day That Will Be". The casket bearers will be: nephews: David Becker, Duane Becker, Dale Becker and Gene Corle and friends: Cliff Sawyer and Larry May. The honorary casket bearers will be Betty"s TOPS Group. Interment will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Faith Baptist Church. Following the service, a luncheon will be hosted by Faith Baptist for all.
