FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN.VISITATION : One hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.INTERMENT : SURVIVORS : Joanne, his wife of 59 years; five children: Carol (Michael) Kephart of Moorhead, MN, Bruce (Gail) Avenson, of S. St. Paul, MN, Diane (John) Christensen of Cheyenne, WY, Jeanne (Marcus) Roman of Moorhead, MN, and Melissa (Jason) Sieving of Eagan, MN; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He also leaves three siblings: Loren (Julia) Avenson, Arlyce (Robert) Becker and Merle (Jean) Avenson. MARLYN H. AVENSONSeptember 18, 1930 ~ November 23, 2012 Marlyn Howard Avenson died on Nov. 23, 2012 in Tucson, AZ. As a baptized child of God he knew his Savior Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by the love of his family after fighting a long battle with many health problems. He went quietly to the loving arms of Jesus. Marlyn was born September 18, 1930 to Harry and Pearl Avenson in Hubbard, MN. Marlyn had a full life. He helped on the family farm; attended a country school; graduated from both Nevis High School and Minneapolis Business School before marrying Joanne Dierks. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years before working in the insurance industry and later in banking (both at Citizens National Bank (CNB)) for many years. He served his community and church in various capacities. He was the treasurer at Headwaters Country Club, a Lions member, Civil Air Patrol member, CNB Board of Directors and a member at St. Johns Lutheran Church where he held many offices and served on various boards. Whether flying in airplanes, refurbishing a 1955 Plymouth, collecting coins, or just playing cards, Marlyn lived a full life. St. Paul, MN, Diane (John) Christensen of Cheyenne, WY, Jeanne (Marcus) Roman of Moorhead, MN, and Melissa (Jason) Sieving of Eagan, MN; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He also leaves three siblings: Loren (Julia) Avenson, Arlyce (Robert) Becker and Merle (Jean) Avenson and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Kathryn; brother, Vern and his parents. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 P.M. on Friday, November 30, 2012 at St. Johns Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
