Tuesday December 18, 2012 at the Jones Pearson Funeral Home, Park Rapids, MN. 6:30 P.M. Rosary service. Also, visitation 1 hr. prior to service on Wednesday at the church, 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.INTERMENT : Spring Interment at Henrietta CemeterySURVIVORS : Husband Roger Carlson, Children: Dave (Jane) Beck of Park Rapids, LaVonne Beck of Park Rapids, Gary Beck of St.Paul, Connie (Stan) Preston of Menahga, Kay Davis of Mpls., Linda Beck of Park Rapids, Sister Dolores Pritchard of Hopkins, Brother Donald Cekalla of White Bear, 11 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. VALERIA "VAL" MARGARET REGINA CARLSONAugust 20, 1933 ~ December 14, 2012 Valeria Margaret Regina Carlson, age 79 of Menahga passed away on Friday, December 14, 2012 at St. Josephs Hospital.Val was born on August 20, 1933 to Alex and Marie (Meyer) Cekalla in Lake Itasca, MN, one of six children. Val was baptized and confirmed into the catholic faith, attending school and living in Lake Itasca. She married Orville Beck and they resided in Osage. Val moved to Park Rapids, worked as a waitress and cook at Knob Hill Boys Camp, Chateau Paulette, Meyer"s Bakery and Nuggett Truck Stop.Val met and married her favorite customer Roger Carlson in 1975; they made their home in Menahga. In 1987 the Carlson"s purchased Wimpy"s Café; operating the cafe until 2009. Val enjoyed trips to the Casino, gardening, baking, canning, watching W.W.E. and spending time at home with her family. Val will be sadly missed by her husband Roger, Children Dave (Jane) Beck of Park Rapids, LaVonne Beck of Park Rapids, Gary Beck of St. Paul, Connie (Stan) Preston of Menahga, Kay Davis of Minneapolis, Linda Beck of Park Rapids; sister, Dolores Pritchard of Hopkins; brother, Donald Cekalla of White Bear Lake; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and her pet Pomeranian Precious. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael and Gregory; brothers, Robert and Sylvester; sister, Maxine Hindberg; grandson, Alex Preston; brothers-in-law, Arvid, Leroy and Kenneth Carlson; sisters-in-law, Ruth Johnstone, Viola Dammer, June Shogren and Elaine Polander.Funeral services will be held on 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 19, at St. Peter"s Catholic Church, Park Rapids with Father Tom Friedl officiating. Visitation 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Jones Pearson Funeral Home.
