Monday, January 21, 2013 at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis, MNSURVIVORS : His children: Janice (Arvid) Ward of Hector, MN and Ron (Ellie) Engst of Park Rapids, MN; 5 grandchildren: Toni Jo (Brian) Babatz, Tami (Dave) Henning, Lance (Katie) Engst, John Engst and Jim (Melody) Engst; grandson-in-law, Ed Chermak; 14 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. TONY RONALD ENGSTAugust 16, 1916 ~ January 14, 2013 Tony Ronald Engst, age 96 passed away on January 14, 2013 in Park Rapids, MN due to kidney failure.Tony was born on August 16, 1916 in Gwinner, North Dakota to Frank and Mary (Rossow) Engst. He graduated from high school in Milnor, ND in 1935 and from Wahpeton, ND State College of Science in 1937. On September 1, 1940 he married Helen Mildred Johnson in Taylor Falls, MN. They enjoyed over 58 years of marriage. From 1938 to 1950, Tony owned and operated Modern Insulating Company in St. Paul. In 1950, they moved to Clarissa, MN where he and Helen owned and operated the Park Movie Theatre. In 1956, Tony invented an "adjusta weather stripping machine" " which he had patented and made insulation for doors. In 1959, they moved to Hector, MN and bought a Red Owl Grocery Store which they operated for 22 years. Tony and Helen enjoyed a trip to Hawaii and 2 trips to Mexico. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, giving candy to his grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren and being with family and friends.Tony is survived by his children: Janice (Arvid) Ward of Hector, MN and Ron (Ellie) Engst of Park Rapids, MN; 5 grandchildren: Toni Jo (Brian) Babatz, Tami (Dave) Henning, Lance (Katie) Engst, John Engst and Jim (Melody) Engst; grandson-in-law, Ed Chermak; 14 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; 2 brothers; 3 sisters; granddaughter, Teri Chermak; great grandson, Tylor Ward Chermak and great-great grandson, Tristen Maresch.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Assembly of God Church in Park Rapids, MN with Reverends Tim Wilson and Art Wood officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
