DOUGLAS EUGENE ANDERSONAugust 23, 1922 " January 21, 2013 Douglas Eugene Anderson, age 90, of Park Rapids, MN, formerly of the Lake George, Dilworth and Moorhead, MN areas, entered his Heavenly home on Monday, January 21, 2013, with his loved ones at his side, while at the St. Joseph"s Hospital in Park Rapids. Doug was born on August 23, 1922 in Dilworth, MN to Albert and Erma (Glanville) Anderson. He attended public schools at Dilworth where he went on to graduate from high school with the Class of 1940. After graduation, Doug worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps developing the present day Itasca State Park. On October 11, 1941, Doug was united in marriage to the prettiest gal in all of Dilworth, Delphine Carol Ann McGinnis. This union was blessed with a son, Timothy and two daughters: Pamela and Rebecca. Shortly after their marriage, Doug was drafted into World War II. He entered the United States Army where he transported and loaded supplies onto ocean going vessels to support the war efforts around the world. He was honorably discharged on April 12, 1946. Following the war, Doug reunited with the wife he had missed so dearly and a new baby boy back in Dilworth. Doug gained employment working on the Northern Pacific Railroad as a tender shoveling coal. He showed his drive, ambition and commitment by working all the way up to locomotive engineer. Later, Doug witnessed the Northern Pacific becoming the Burlington Northern Railway. In all, his career with the railroad spanned over 42 years. In the early 1970"s, Doug supervised the construction of a cabin in Lake George, MN where he and his family enjoyed spending much time during his retirement. He loved the out doors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. He enjoyed taking his soul mate, Delphine out to dances and socializing with friends. He enjoyed playing a round of golf with family and friends every chance he could. He took special pride in caring for his home and yard which he kept beautifully manicured. Doug was a long time member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead and later the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. He was a former vice-commander of the American Legion Post in Dilworth. Doug will be remembered as an easy going man with a warm sense of humor and an eternal spring of optimism. Above all, Doug devoted his life to his precious wife, Delphine, his children and his grandchildren who he loved with all his heart. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife for the past 71 years, Delphine of Park Rapids; his daughters: Pamela (Stan) Squyres of Pheonix, AZ and Rebecca (Dennis) Anderson of Thousand Oaks, CA; 7 beloved grandchildren: Michael Anderson, Jackie Doceti, Chelsea (Chris) Kinyoun, Tanner (Tania) Currie, Matthew (Christina) Squyres, Zachery (Alisha) Squyres and Alicia (Kenny) May; 16 precious great grandchildren; his sister, Eunice Larson of Wadena, MN and his brother, Duane (Janice) Anderson of CA as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy; two brothers: Ernie and Billy and a sister, Lola Marie Gillespie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, MN with Father Thomas Friedl officiating. The organist will be Barb Fick. The Alleluia Choir will lead the music. The casketbearers will be: Stanley Squyres, Dennis Anderson, Tanner Currie, Matthew Squyres, Zachery Squyres, Kenny May and Colton Anderson. The honorary casketbearers will be: Michael Anderson, Alicia May, Chelsea Kinyoun and Jackie Doceti. Military honors will be provided by Star of the North Marine Corps League with Ray Vaadeland performing Taps. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be held at St. Joseph"s Catholic Cemetery in Moorhead, MN in the spring.
