FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church near Menahga, MN with Reverend Art Skoog officiating.VISITATION : 5-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.INTERMENT : Red Eye Cemetery near Sebeka, MNSURVIVORS : Her two sons: Robert (Linda) of Menahga, MN and Richard (Sandy) of Winkelman, Arizona; five grandchildren: Don (Colleen), Randy (Jackie), Terence (Cheryl), all of Menahga, Megan (Josh) of Barnesville, MN and Jacob of Globe, AZ; 16 great grandchildren; one great"great grandchild; her sisters: Helen Koskela, Elaine Skoog, Lillian Lustila, all of Menahga, Elsie (Rodney) Salmen of Osage; one brother, Douglas (Mary Ann) Haverinen of Sebeka and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Haverinen of Menahga. EDNA LORRAINE BERTTUNENNovember 9, 1921 ~ April 19, 2013 Edna Lorraine Berttunen, age 91, a life long Menahga area resident, passed away on April 19, 2013 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga, MN.Edna was born November 9, 1921 to Matt and Lydia (Leinon) Haverinen in Wadena County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in faith and was a member of the Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church her entire life. She attended country school at Brookside 28 South in Wadena County. Edna married Robert Berttunen on June 16, 1941 in Runeberg Township, Becker County. Two sons were born to this union, Robert (Bob) and Richard. Edna was a woman of deep faith and was also a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved her church very much. Edna, along with her husband Robert, farmed in the early 40"s and also did some trucking. After moving to Menahga, they owned and operated East Side Auto Parts, which was a salvage business in Menahga. In the 50"s, Edna worked at the Ringer Garment Factory in Park Rapids, MN, and at that time, Robert was in the gravel business " which she also helped out with. In 1963, Robert and Edna started Menahga Concrete. She worked there until 1975 when she then retired. Edna worked very hard her entire life. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and sewing clothing and snowmobile suits for her grandchildren. Edna also loved to travel and go camping with family and friends. She was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone in need. Her family and grandchildren were very important to her. She will be greatly missed.Edna is survived by her two sons: Robert (Linda) of Menahga, MN and Richard (Sandy) of Winkelman, Arizona; five grandchildren: Don (Colleen), Randy (Jackie), Terence (Cheryl), all of Menahga, Megan (Josh) of Barnesville, MN and Jacob of Globe, AZ; 16 great grandchildren; one great"great grandchild; her sisters: Helen Koskela, Elaine Skoog, Lillian Lustila, all of Menahga, Elsie (Rodney) Salmen of Osage; one brother, Douglas (Mary Ann) Haverinen of Sebeka; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Haverinen of Menahga; many nieces and nephews, friends and brothers and sisters in faith.She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Matt and Lydia Haverinen; two brothers: Leonard and Art Haverinen; one sister, Dorothy Hillukka; three brothers-in-law: Walter Skoog, Roger Lustila and Vernon Koskela and one grandson (at birth). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church near Menahga, MN with Reverend Art Skoog officiating. Casketbearers will be: Don Berttunen, Randy Berttunen, Terry Berttunen, Megan Warmbold, Jacob Berttunen and Dustin Berttunen. The honorary bearers will be Edna"s great grandchildren, great-great grandchild and the Staff of Green Pine Acres Nursing Home. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be held at the Red Eye Cemetery near Sebeka, MN.
