MEMORIAL SERVICES : Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Park Rapids, MN. VISITATION: Visitation one hour before the service, a luncheon served after the service, followed by internment at St Peter"s Cemetery. Melvin J. Ford November 6, 1936 - August 25, 2013 Melvin Jerome Ford (Mel), age 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 25, 2013 at the Heritage Cottages in Park Rapids, after fighting a tough battle with Alzheimer"s. Melvin was born in Longville, MN on November 6, 1936.Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Vera, three children: Mark (Laurie), Holly (Joe), and David (Diane), eight grandchildren: Krystal (Jason), Kandi, Aubray (Allen), Kristina, Benjamin, Clara, Andrew, and Travis, five great grandchildren: Trey, Dakota, Jordan, Melody and Dominic, brothers and sisters: Marlene, Fran (Art), Dwayne (Marjorie), Twyla (Wayne), Dennis (Linda), Judy (Bill), Peggy, Kathy (Dick), Brad (Marilyn), and Debbie. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Marian, brother Gaylen, and twin brother Merwin. Melvin is a veteran of the Navy, and worked in construction for most of his life, including; Marv Anderson Homes, Okerman & Hunstead, Vanman Construction, and Richard Miller Incorporated. He became Vice President of Construction for Richard Miller Inc., before he and Vera created and operated, Palmford Construction. He retired in 2001. Melvin was a very family orientated and caring man. His greatest love was for his wife of 54 years and his family. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting, fishing, and traveling with Vera. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, located at 305 West 5 Street, Park Rapids, MN. Visitation one hour before the service, a luncheon served after the service, followed by internment at St Peter"s Cemetery.
