FUNERAL SERVICES : 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, MN.VISITATION : 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, October 7, at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN. and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.INTERMENT : Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids, MN SURVIVORS : NASSER " Janet Nellie Nasser, age 92, a long time resident of Park Rapids, MN peacefully passed into eternity on Wednesday, October 2nd , 2013 surrounded by her loved ones at St. Josephs Hospital in Park Rapids.Janet was born on August 20, 1921 in Edgerton, MN to John and Ella (Wilcox) VanDen Eykel. She attended country school near Lebanon, South Dakota through the 7th grade. She moved with her parents to a farm south of Akeley, MN in 1934. It was there that Janet finished her public schooling at the White Oak District Country School. As a young woman, Janet helped on her parent"s farm and did house cleaning for several neighbors and an area restaurant. Janet was united in marriage to John Christian Nasser at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, MN on April 3, 1946. This union was blessed with five children: Robert Soren, Kenneth John, Donald Harry, Gary James and Jeanne Kristine. The Nasser family made their home in Henrietta Township where they farmed full-time until 1958. Janet worked along side her husband in milking their cows and caring for their livestock. She dedicated herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls, donuts and cookies. Each spring, she looked forward to planting a large vegetable garden which she would nurture into fruitful abundance to preserve for her growing family. She also enjoyed raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor for all to see and enjoy. For a number of years, Janet opened her home and heart to raising foster children. She enjoyed working at the Sunset Nursing Home from 1977 until her retirement in 1988. Janet was an accomplished seamstress who loved to sew dresses for her daughter and shirts and suit coats for her boys. She enjoyed knitting many sweaters as gifts for family and friends. She also spent countless hours quilting and crocheting. As a mom, Janet endured deep and painful grief in the death of her young son, Kenneth who died in a tragic accident in 1958 and again the death of her ten year old son, Donny who died of leukemia in 1964. Above all, Janet was a very faithful member of the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset and she loved the Lord and her family with all her heart.Janet will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jeanne (Bruce) Massie of Park Rapids; her two sons: Robert Nasser and Gary Nasser both of Park Rapids; her three grandchildren: Tiffany (Ryan) Ruiz of Frazee and John and Riley Massie of Park Rapids; l great granddaughter, Rilynn Ruiz of Frazee; her very special nephew, Richard Vanden Eykel of Akeley and her dear special care provider, Bev Sherman of Park Rapids; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; her two sons: Kenneth and Donny; two brothers: Roger and Henry and two sisters: Anna May and Harriet. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset with the Reverend Chris Davis officiating. The organist will be Lila Kalish. The casket bearers will be: John Massie, Riley Massie, Richard VanDen Eykel, Rita Holland, Dacle Schmid Jr. Jerry Weaver, Vern Massie and Craig Ritgers. Interment will be in the Nasser family plot located in the Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, October 7th at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home and again on Tuesday for one hour prior to the service. Following the service a luncheon will be hosted by the First English Lutheran Church
