MEMORIAL SERVICES : 6:00 PM, Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Jones-Pearsn Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN HERTA ELISABETH KNOBLOCH March 10, 1933 ~ December 9, 2013 Herta Elisabeth Knobloch, age 80, of Park Rapids, MN, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND.Herta was born on March 10, 1933 in Frankfurt, Germany. It was in this same area that she attended school and grew into adulthood. As a young woman, Herta experienced first hand the horrors of World War II and spent many nights hiding under bridges seeking safety from the constant bombings. Herta met a U.S. soldier named James Johnson while he was stationed in Germany. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1959 in Frankfurt. This union was blessed with one son, Ludwig Edward Johnson. Herta moved to the United States with her family and became a U.S. citizen on June 11, 1963. James was stationed throughout the United States so Herta got the chance to live in many different places over the years. When Jim retired from the military they made their home in Colorado. Jim passed away on April 27, 1971. Herta moved to Park Rapids, MN to be close to Jim"s family. She began working at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids as a head cook in a career that spanned over 25 years. She was united in marriage to Charles Knobloch on February 4, 1977. Charles had three children: Rick, Connie and Karla who Herta embraced as her own. Charles passed away on March 8, 2000. Herta continued making her home in Park Rapids.Herta had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed berry picking and fishing for anything that would bite her line. She was a bargain hunter and could be found perusing local garage sales on Saturday mornings. She was an excellent cook and her children looked forward to her homemade potato salad and creamed asparagus. Above all, Herta enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren who were her pride and joy in life.She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Rick (Joan) Knobloch of Park Rapids, Connie (Ray) Ball of Park Rapids, and Karla (Lanny) Mitchell of Detroit Lakes, MN; daughter-in-law, Cathy (Larry) Johnson of Park Rapids, MN; her grandchildren: Elisa Johnson, Drew Ceminski, Shannon Haas, Monique Hendricks, Rochelle Knobloch, Jenelle Wilhelms and Renetta Patterson; 17 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Heinz (Ulla) Pfeffer of Frankfurt, Germany.Herta was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands: James and Charles; her son, Ludwig "Ed" Johnson and an aunt in Germany.A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids. Special music will be provided by Herta"s daughter, Karla Mitchell and her granddaughter, Monique Hendricks. Honorary urn bearers will be Herta"s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment services will be held in the spring at the Greenwood Cemetery in Park Rapids.
