VISITATION : 5-8 PM Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN VIOLET MARIE OLSON September 30, 1938 " December 15, 2013 Violet Marie Olson, age 75, of Warroad, MN, formerly of Sebeka, MN unexpectedly entered her heavenly home in time for Christmas on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Roseau, MN.Violet was born on September 30, 1938 to John and Nettie (Putney) Hopkins on the family farm near Roosevelt, MN. As a teenager she moved with her family to Sebeka, MN where she attended high school. As a young woman, she met a handsome young farm boy from Menahga, MN, Floyd Ervin Olson. The young couple was married on May 26, 1956 in Sebeka. This marriage was blessed with four children: Lorraine, Shiela, Floyd and Leonard. Shortly after their marriage, Floyd enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country for two years based in California and Germany. During his tour of duty, Violet made her home in California where their first child, Lorraine was born. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1959, they returned to the Menahga/Sebeka area where Floyd dairy farmed and drove milk truck. Violet devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade breads, buns and cinnamon rolls. In addition to caring for her family, Violet also worked a variety of jobs to supplement her family"s needs. In November of 1994, Violet endured the heartache of her husband"s untimely death after waging a valiant battle against cancer. She was very proud to have rounded out her career serving as the Department Senior at Marvin"s Windows in Warroad, retiring in 1998. She continued to keep herself busy by working part time at the Warroad Casino. In her spare time, Violet enjoyed working in her gardens. raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor. She was a voracious reader and especially loved to visit with her family and friends. For many years she attended Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Sebeka. She will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Lorraine Juvrud of Glenwood, MN, Shiela (Tim) Friesner of Roosevelt, MN, Floyd (Nancy) Olson of Tioga, ND, and Leonard (Margaret) Olson of Ramsey, MN; l3 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; her two sisters: Annette (Frank) Crandell of AZ, and Charlotte (Steve) Christensen of Roosevelt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; her son-in-law, Mark Juvrud in 1996 and her daughter-in-law, Lesa (Pickar) Olson in 2004. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM on Friday, December 20, 2013 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Sebeka, MN with Pastor Rachel L.O. Stout officiating. The organist will be Vickie Paurus. Congregational hymns will be: "The Old Rugged Cross", "In The Garden" and "Softly and Tenderly, Jesus Is Calling". The casket bearers will be Violet"s grandchildren: Michael Juvrud, Aaron Juvrud, Adam Juvrud, Mandy Lane, Stacy Palm, Kristy Friesner, Nicole Lalim, Scott Olson, Lucas Olson, Jared Olson, Jessica Dehn, Jennifer Johnson and Justin Johnson. Interment will be made in the Menahga City Cemetery next to her husband, Floyd. Following the service a luncheon will be hosted by the Our Saviours Women. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga, MN and for one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church.
