INTERMENT: Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Near Little falls MN HILDA MARIE BRAUCH October 23, 1916 - January 13, 2014 Hilda Marie Brauch, age 97, of Park Rapids, died Monday, January 13, 2014 at Rose Haven in Menahga, MN. Hilda was born on October 23, 1916 in Lakefield, MN to Herman and Ida (Hohenstein) Burmeister. She was the youngest of twelve children and attended the country District 80 school and was confirmed in German after attending parochial school at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lakefield High School and attended business college in Mankato. Upon graduating she worked at the Lakefield Farmer's Elevator. While working there, she met her husband, John, who was employed at the Lakefield Farmer's State Bank. On March 18, 1939, Hilda was united in marriage to John in Lakefield. This union was blessed with three children: John, Nancy and Mary Kay. The young couple made their home in Huron, South Dakota where John continued a career in banking. After several years they moved to Spring Valley, MN and then to Rochester to live while John served abroad in the Navy. They moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota after the war ended and then to Anoka, MN where they owned and operated The Sunset Motel. From there, they moved to Robbinsdale, MN until retirement. Hilda proudly held a part-time position at Buttreys clothing store where she loved to help people shop. John and Hilda retired to Rice Lake near Eden Valley where they resided from 1975 until 1990. She had resided in Park Rapids up to the present time. Hilda was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. She loved going for walks with her dogs, watching and feeding birds. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, John (Candace) of Rochester; 2 daughters: Nancy Leeseberg of Park Rapids and Mary Kay Harris of Robbinsdale; 5 grandchildren: Alison (Ernest) Hernandez, Heather (Jeffrey) Anderson, Hildy Swedean, Rob Harris, Emily (Atta Belfar) DeGrazia; 3 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters; as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, nine sisters, two brothers, and husband, John. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN , with a visitation at 10:00 prior to the service and a lunch to follow at the church . Reverend James Neubauer and Reverend Timothy Heinecke will be officiating. Interment will be made in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice.
