VISITATION : 5-8 PM on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home In Park Rapids, MN INTERMENT : SURVIVORS : B ETTE JOANN PACHEL J U LY 22, 1933 " NOVEMBER 20, 2013 Bette Joann (Stephens) Pachel, age 80, of Ponsford, MN passed away on November 20, 2013 at the Davita Dialysis Center of Park Rapids, MN.Bette was born on July 22, 1933 to Robert and Cora (Weeks) Stephens in Pine Point Township of Becker County, MN. It was in this same area that she attended the Linnell Country School near her home through the 8 th grade. She then went on to attend Park Rapids High School from where she graduated with the class of 1951. As a young woman, Bette attended Normal Teachers Training School. She taught in various country schools from 1952 to 1962; and then did some substitute teaching for a few years. Bette was united in marriage to John Pachel on June 11, 1955. This marriage was blessed with eight children. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She helped raise her family on the family farm. The couple bought the hardware store in Ponsford in 1967 and ran Johns" Hardware for 30 years. She was a member of the Helping Hand Club, the Kosy Klan Homemakers, Diversified Divas Red Hats, Widows, Birthday Club, and the American Legion Post #212 Auxiliary where she was president and secretary. She was a 4-H club leader for 15 years. She was on the Ponsford Centennial and Linnell Cemetery committees and was an organizer of the blood drives. She was secretary/treasurer of St. Theodores Church and a Fire Warden for 20 years.Bette enjoyed working in the huge garden they put in every year. She loved freezing and canning the vegetables and strawberries from the garden; and sharing them with family and neighbors. She enjoyed cooking meals for the family; especially, on Sundays. Bette loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and having relatives and friends stop by for a visit. She was a faithful member of St. Theodores Church in Ponsford. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.Bette is survived by her eight children: Stephen (Deb) of Park Rapids; Pam (Ronnie) Scholz of Two Inlets; Daniel (Kathy) of Ponsford; Donald of Osage; Ronald (Ruth) of Ponsford; Patty of Park Rapids; Linda (Scott) Hogan of Hartford, SD; and Kathy (Kirk) Brock of Park Rapids. 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; one sister Bonnie Tullgren of San Antonio, TX; a brother-in-law- Gary Tigue of Osage; as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Bette was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister Janis; her brother Bobbie; and a special son-in-law Stephen Weller.
