August M Klier

August Michael Klier, age 72, of Menahga, MN, passed away peacefully at Essentia Health Care in Fargo on Saturday, April 26, 2014. August was born on December 4, 1941 to Gerhart and Matilda (Wenzel) Klier in Park Rapids, MN. He attended country school, received his GED, and then graduated from Detroit Lakes Technical College. He married the love of his life, Veda Cooper on November 2, 1963. This union was blessed with five daughters. August worked as an owner & operator for Polman Transfer in Wadena, MN. He also drove dump truck for GNT, STS, and did diesel mechanic work. In 2012 he retired from Polman Transfer after many years of service. August loved fixing things; especially cars, trucks, and anything with an engine. His time was also filled with reading books about truck history, tending to his garden, feeding the birds, and spending time with their beloved dog. Most importantly August enjoyed being with his family. August will be remembered as a loving husband and father; was a very hard worker, enjoyed helping others, and had a deep appreciation for what others did for him. August is survived by Veda, his loving wife for 51 years; 5 daughters who adored him: Kelly (Everet) Klier, Michelle (Tony) Yliniemi, Wendy (Doug) Klier, Barb (Chris) Mckenzie, and Annette (Jeff) Walker, 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one brother, Ted Klier; and many family members and friends who will miss him dearly. August was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe, sister Evelyn, and grand daughter Lisa. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Nevis, MN with Pastor Darrell Morton officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will follow after the service at the church. Interment will be made in the Arago Cemetery, Hubbard County.
