RODNEY RUDOLPH SALMEN February 21, 1934 - June 12, 2014 Rodney Rudolph Salmen, age 80, a long time Wolf Lake, MN area resident, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Sanford Health Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota. Rodney was born on February 21, 1934 in Ottertail County, Minnesota to Waino and Vieno (Kyrola) Salmen. He attended public school in Sebeka and graduated from the Sebeka High School with the class of 1952. On July 3rd, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elsie Haverinen. This union was blessed with nine children. The young couple moved to Minneapolis where Rodney worked as a machinist. In 1961, the Salmen's returned to the Wolf Lake area where they farmed. Rodney also worked as an assessor and was responsible for numerous townships throughout Becker County. Rodney was a member of the Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church for many years. He is survived by his wife for these nearly 60 years, Elsie of Menahga; his eight children: Duane and his wife, Tyyni Salmen of Wolf Lake, Kristina and her husband, Arnold Hendrickson of Menahga, Dale and his wife, Beverly of Dassel, MN, Lynda and her husband, Aaron Peterson of Dassel, Laurel and her husband, Russell Skoog of Wolf Lake, Julie and her husband, Wayne Isaacson of Sebeka, Jan and her husband, Ronald Jackola of Osage, MN and Timothy and his wife, Lisa Salmen of Osage; 69 grandchildren and 94 great grandchildren; his brother, Gerald and his wife, Irene Salmen of Rapid City, SD and his sister, Carol and her husband, Richard Meyer of Dublin, Ohio as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; his infant daughter, Joan and an infant grand daughter, Jody Salmen. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 16, 2014 at the Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church west of Menahga with the Reverend Ervin Peterson officiating. The organist will be Andrea Haverinen. Interment will be made in the Salmen family plot located in the Pickerel Lake Cemetery near Wolf Lake. Casketbearers will be Nathan Skoog, Craig Isaacson, Bradley Salmen, Neal Peterson, Daniel Hendrickson and Lanny Salmen. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 PM Sunday, June 15 at the Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church and again on Monday morning beginning one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be hosted by the church family following the service. The Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
