DARYL W. HIRSCHEL December 6, 1926 - September 1, 2014 Daryl W. Hirschel, age 87, of Shoreview, MN and a long-time summer resident of Park Rapids, MN peacefully entered eternity on Monday, September 1, 2014 at his home on Long Lake. Daryl was born to Albert and Mable (Wilson) Hirschel on December 6, 1926, at his parent's farm on the Hubbard Prairie. He attended the Hubbard Public School through the eighth grade, then attended high school in Park Rapids and graduated with the class of 1945. He went on to attend the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis where he studied electronics. As a young man, Daryl began working in telecommunications and had a career that spanned over 35 years. He was united in marriage to Joyce Potter on May 27, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Park Rapids. This union was blessed with two children, Mark and Luanne. Daryl's work with the phone company brought them to numerous communities throughout Minnesota and for a short time in Florida. He retired from the phone company in the early 90's. Daryl enjoyed outdoor recreation and especially his weekend visits to the home he built on Long Lake. Throughout his life, Daryl was an active Mason and served as a Past Master in the Tusler-Summit Masonic Lodge. In addition, he was a long-standing member of the Osman Shrine. He was a faithful member of the Centennial Methodist Church in Roseville, MN. Above all, Daryl devoted his life to his wife Joyce, his children and his grand children who he loved with all his heart. He will be fondly remembered by his wife, Joyce, his son, Mark (Lori) Hirschel of Oak Grove, MN, and daughter, Luanne (Dale) Hirschel of Shoreview, two grandchildren, Jamie and Jonathan, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeanne. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Hubbard United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Laurie Kantonen officiating. There will be a Visitation held at the church from 9:30 to 11:00 AM preceding the service. Luncheon will be served in the church dining room following the service.
