Lila Mae Zubke

March 27, 1934 — January 21, 2015

LILA MAE ZUBKE March 27, 1934 - January 21, 2015 Lila Mae Zubke, age 80, a long time Laporte, MN area resident, peacefully entered the glory of eternity on Tuesday evening, January 21, 2015 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with her loved ones at her side. Lila was born on March 27, 1934 on her parent's farm in Farden Township near Nary, MN to Ray and Julia Hughs. She attended country school nearby and went on to attend high school in Cass Lake. She graduated with the Class of 1952. Lila was united in marriage to Lavern W. "Chub" Zubke on July 22, 1952 at the Lutheran Church in Walker, MN. Shortly after their marriage, Chub enlisted in the United States Navy. After his basic training, Lila moved out to his naval base in Norfolk, VA where they lived in the married barracks. It was there that their first child, Wanda was born. After receiving his honorable discharge in May of 1955, the young couple returned with their daughter to the Laporte area. They eventually purchased a farm on County Road 95 near Laporte where they lived into their retirement. During this time, Lila and Chub were additionally blessed with 3 sons: David, Roger and William. Lila was a wonderful cook and baker who will be remembered for her delicious home cooked meals and her delicious homemade breads, caramel rolls and cookies. She was known for her generous hospitality and anyone who stopped by was always treated to a fresh cup of coffee and something freshly baked. Each spring she would plant a large vegetable garden and work it faithfully to nurture an abundant harvest to care for the needs of her growing family. She was a long time member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George where she served the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher and later providing food for special occasions. In her spare time, Lila enjoyed working with her hands sewing and crocheting. Her life was deeply saddened by the death of her dearly loved husband in April of 2012. Due to her own failing health, she had left the farm where she and Chub had made their home and raised their family and became a resident of the Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji several years ago. Lila will be remembered by her children and grandchildren for her wonderful unconditional love and her servant's heart that so graciously blessed her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Wanda (Clayton) Gladen, David (Deb) Zubke, Roger (Debbie) Zubke and William all of Laporte; her eleven dearly loved grandchildren and her 13 precious great grandchildren; her two brothers: Richard (Maylynn) Hughs of North Dakota and Gordon (Ann) Hughs of Guthrie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Lila was preceded in death by her husband, Lavern "Chub" in 2012; her parents, a sister, Lucille Sage and a brother, Lavern and 1 grandson, Jacob Zubke. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Kabekona Community Church with Rev. Randy Reimer officiating. Special music will be provided by Kent Dudley. The active casket bearers will be: David Zubke, Roger Zubke, William Zubke, Derek Gladen, Joshua Zubke, Wade Zubke, Brady Zubke and Jorden Zubke. The honorary casket bearers will be Lila's granddaughters, great grandchildren and dear friends, Robert and Edith Lindgren. Interment will be made in the Evergreen Cemetery near Laporte.
