Mayme "May" Helen Koskela, 75, of Park Rapids, MN passed into eternal life on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at her home with her loved ones by her side. May was born on July 20, 1939 to Matt and Impi(Erkkila)White in Menahga, MN. There she attended school and graduated from the Menahga Public High School in 1957. Following graduation she went to the Twin Cities to work. On June 13, 1959, May married Ernest Koskela. Together they had three children and lived in the Twin Cities until moving to Park Rapids in 1970. May worked for many years at the Red Owl, Super-Valu and Country Store. In 1992, she got her CNA and HHA certification and worked at St. Joseph's Home Health Care and Hospice. She thoroughly enjoyed this job until her retirement in 2009. May loved taking care of her flower gardens, being part of a bowling league with her friends, and keeping up with her grand and great grandchildren. She enjoyed volunteering at the hospital information desk, and was known for being a good cook and baker. May is survived by her husband, Ernest; her two sons: Steven (Patty) of Hanover, MN and Brian (Sheri) of Dayton, MN; her daughter, Sheryl Spies of Sauk Rapids, MN; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; three sisters: Ruth (Cliff) Ollanketo of Ramsey, MN, Hazel (David) Ruuska of Dayton, MN, Carol (Bob) Niemela of Menahga, and one brother, Robert (Judy) White of Park Rapids; as well as two aunts and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, John. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Riverside Methodist Church in Park Rapids with Reverend Gebhard officiating. The soloist will be Sue Grage who will sing, "The Lord's Prayer" and "The Rose". The organist will be Linda Szuszitzky. Congregational hymns will be: "Rock of Ages", "In The Garden", "Amazing Grace" and "I'll Fly Away". The urnbearers will be her three grandsons: Dustin Koskela, Austin Koskela and Ryan Spies. The honorary urn bearers will be her former associates at St. Joseph's Home Health Care and Hospice. A luncheon will be hosted by the church following the service.
