Vera A. Powell

Vera Ann Powell, 87, a long time Park Rapids, MN resident, passed away on April 8, 2015 at the St. Joseph's Area Hospital in Park Rapids with her loved ones at her side. Vera was born November 3, 1927 in Sioux City, IA to Gerald and Martha (Flanagan) Powell. Vera attended grade school and high school in Sioux City. After school, Vera started working at the Battery Company in Sioux City. She did various other jobs including working for Swift and Company for over 20 years until she teamed up with Marjorie Amick. Together they built and operated the Kimasomi Resort on Island Lake just north of Park Rapids for almost 50 years. Vera was a member of the Park Rapids Snowmobile Club and was actively involved in the building of the Riverside United Methodist Church. Vera is survived by her loving friend Marjorie Amick of Park Rapids; Marjorie's five children: Sharron (DeeRoy) Hedemark of Moville, IA; Ken (Ellen) Amick of Neenah, WI; Steve Amick of Emigrant, MT; Kathi (Jeffrey) Whiteside of Appleton, WI; Dennis (Debbie) Amick of Chicago, IL;19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren as well as Vera's sister, Mary Skidmore of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nieces and nephews that loved her and enjoyed her humor. She is preceded in death by her older sister Katie Blomberg, her twin sister Jane Ricard, and her brother Gary Powell. Memorial Services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Park Rapids with the Rev. Duane M. Gebhard officiating. The soloist will be Dave Keller. The organist will be Linda Szuszitzky. Visitation will begin one hour prior to services at the church. Inurnment will be held 10 AM Monday, April 27, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, IA with Rev. Elizabeth Tucker officiating.
