Max George Hoefs, age 90, a lifelong Dorset, MN area resident peacefully passed into eternal life Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids, MN. Max was born on October 24, 1924 in Dorset, MN to Otto and Pauline (Welge) Hoefs. He attended the Dorset Public School through the eighth grade. As a young man he farmed with his dad. When Max was twenty-one his dad passed away and Max took over the operation of the family farm. He enjoyed farming with a well-trained team of horses; but reluctantly gave way to progress and purchased his first Allis Chalmers tractor in 1950; but, he continued to use his team of horses whenever possible. Max also served as a caretaker of numerous homes on the lakes near his farm. When he was younger, Max enjoyed walking through the pasture down to Lake Ida and wetting a fishing line. He was a longtime and faithful member of First English Lutheran Church where he served as the head usher for many years. In 2002, Max sold the farm; but continued living there until 2007 when due to failing health, Max moved to the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. In December of 2012, he moved to the Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids where he has made his home ever since. Max will be lovingly remembered by his two sisters: Mabel Ladely of Dorset, MN and Jean Gren of Medford, Oregon; one sister-in-law, Ida Hoefs of Menahga; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Paul, Leonard and Edward; and one sister: Edith. A Celebration of Max's life will be held 11 AM Thursday, September 17, 2015 at First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, MN with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Pastor Chris Davis will be officiating and the organist will be Lila Kalish. The Soloist will be Randy Anderson. Honorary casket bearers will be Robin Ladely, Richard Ladely and Regan Offerdahl.
