Florence E. Dormanen

Florence Elizabeth Dormanen, age 89, a long time Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully passed into eternal life on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Mark Vik, north of Park Rapids following a valiant battle against cancer. Florence was born on May 9, 1926 to John and Alma (Uskoski) Bellika near Fredonia, North Dakota. She grew into womanhood near Gackle, ND helping on her parent's farm and attending country school. As a young woman of 17, Florence ventured to Minneapolis where she gained employment doing domestic work. She married Chester Jaworski and they were blessed with a son, Dwight. She later was united in marriage to Theodore John Dormanen on April 19, 1946 in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with six children: Verna, Janet, Gene, Carol, Margie and Sandra. The young couple farmed near Menahga for a time. Later they sold their farm and returned to Mpls. Florence devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade breads and pin wheel cookies. Florence loved to make quilts, sew, crochet and embroider beautiful handwork for her children and grandchildren. She possessed a green thumb and enjoyed raising beautiful flowers into colorful splendor and nurtured green plants into healthy abundance. Each year she would preserve the vegetables from the family garden for her growing family. In 1976, Florence and Ted retired to the Park Rapids area where she enjoyed babysitting her precious grandchildren. In March of 2000, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted. She continued making her home in Park Rapids right up until her death. Florence will be lovingly remembered by her seven children: Dwight (Tanya) Jaworski of Henning, MN, Verna Dormanen of Park Rapids, MN, Janet (Bruce) Thomas of Siren, WI, Gene Dormanen of Park Rapids, MN, Carol Edberg of Deer Creek, MN, Margie (Mark) Vik of Park Rapids, MN and Sandra (Seth) Marlett of Park Rapids, MN; 13 dearly loved grandchildren; 15 precious great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; seven siblings: Virginia (Teppo) Ketola of Apache Junction, AZ, Mavis Halverson of McGregor, MN, June Coleman of Isanti, MN, Peggy Robarge of McGregor, MN, Linda Klepsa of Isanti, MN, Charles (Florence) Bellika of Battleground, WA and Mabel Nenow of Sacramento, CA as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; six siblings: Hazel Saba, Ellen Bird, Irene Brown, John Bellika, William Bellika and Peter Bellika and a son-in-law, Earl Edberg. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 3, 2015 at the Cowboy Church at Northwoods Harvest Barn, 39410 Hwy. 34, Detroit Lakes, MN with Pastor Brian Erickson officiating. Active casket bearers will be; grandsons: Chad Thomas, Jacob Vik, Matthew Vik, and Whitney Marlett; great grandson, Kyle Wright and sons-in-law: Bruce Thomas, Mark Vik and Seth Marlett. The honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters: Kelly Mehrer, Lori Faulhaber, Heather O'Brien, Angie Jaworski, Kira Marlett, Katie Jaworski and Nicole Vik. Interment will be made in the Red Eye Cemetery west of Sebeka. Following the service a luncheon will be hosted by the Cowboy Church.
