Edwin Donald Lund July 29, 1929  -  June 10, 2016         Edwin Donald Lund, age 86, of Menahga and most recently a resident of Green Pine Acres retirement community in Menahga, MN passed away peacefully June 10, 2016 with his loved ones at his side.  Edwin was born on July 29, 1929 in Spruce Grove Twp., Becker County, MN to Albert J. and Anna Christine (Peterson) Lund.  He attended country school through the eighth grade, and then was required to assist with the farming chores on the family farm.  He was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Dormanen, on October 18, 1952. He worked an entire summer in the Dakotas, saving that money to buy a small farm next to his parents, which he cleared by logging, and farmed as the young couple made their start in life. Edwin joined the Army in 1954 serving in Germany.  They later moved to Detroit Lakes where Edwin was a mechanic for the MN Highway Department.  He was asked to teach the Mechanics program at the MN Vocational and Technical School, with only an eighth grade education. He went on to night school receive his GED and later his Bachelor’s degree.  He and Beverly both set a goal to receive their college education prior to their eldest child graduating from high school.  They did that and set a great example for their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Edwin loved to fish and hunt, but his first love was “baseball”. He was one of the founders of the Midway Baseball Club, which is still going strong today.  He coached and volunteered endless hours in the youth baseball program in Detroit Lakes, and had the privilege of coaching all of his sons at one time or another throughout his life.  Edwin was always the first to volunteer to drive the teams to out of town games.  He and Beverly were devoted fans of the Midway Snurdbirds Baseball Team, and in the winter months they were great supporters of the DL Hockey Boosters.  He served as a Volunteer Fireman for Detroit Lakes Fire Dept. for many years in addition to his teaching, coaching family, and then always the go to mechanic for his children and their friends when their cars were in need of repair.     Edwin and Beverly returned to Menahga in 1991 and he has lived there and enjoyed the friendships of the entire community for many years.  He will lovingly be remembered by his five surviving children: Lynette Conmy (Dr. Bruce) of Hawley, MN, Albert Lund of Menahga, Tim Lund (Lynn) of Rochert, MN, Randy Lund (Shelly) of Callaway, MN and Chris Lund (Melissa) of Perham, MN; 25 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; along with one surviving sister, Patsy Kyro of Detroit Lakes.  He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, daughter Lila, son Curtis, and five brothers and five sisters.        Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Menahga with Pastor Steve Bruer officiating.  Congregational hymns will be “Amazing Grace”, “Just As I Am”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, and “How Great Thou Art”.  Pastor Steve Bruer will sing “The Lord’s Prayer”.  The active casket bearers will be Joshua Lund, Austin LaFriniere, Scott Beadle, Mark Conmy, Shane LaFriniere, Edwin Lund, Jake Lund and Robert Lund.  The honorary casket bearers will be all of his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.  Interment will be in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga and beginning one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
