Karen E. (Pollock) Hinton, age 74, a long time Park Rapids, MN resident, peacefully entered Heaven on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Park Rapids with her loved ones at her side. Karen was born at home on the family farm in Green Valley township of Becker County, MN to Louis and Laura (Schmidt) Pollock. She attended the District #110 Country School near her home through the eighth grade before going on to attend high school in Park Rapids from where she graduated with the Class of 1959. On August 22, 1959, Karen was united in marriage to Larry James Hinton at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Park Rapids. Her life and marriage was fulfilled with the birth of her five children: Michael, Dean, Charles, Daniel and Tamara. Karen devoted her life to creating a loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be fondly remembered for her full course homemade suppers each evening. In addition to caring for her family, Karen worked as a secretary for the Chippewa Travel Trailers Company in Park Rapids. Later she served as a seamstress for Wringer Manufacturing. For several years she managed the Park Rapids Eagles Club and for decades she was an employee of the Park Rapids Municipal Liquor Store until her retirement in 2003. Karen enjoyed spending time with her family deer hunting each fall. She especially looked forward to family get togethers and holidays where she made many special memories with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She really enjoyed taking an Alaskan cruise with her former daughter-in-law, Linda in 2010. Karen was a lifetime member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and her faith sustained her in the loss of her two sons: Dean and Chuck, her husband, Larry and her great grandson, Trevor. Karen will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Michael Hinton of Park Rapids, Daniel (TJ) Hinton of Las Vegas, and Tammy (Pat) Carey of Park Rapids; 15 grandchildren; and 17 precious great grandchildren; her sister, Joan Webber of the Twin Cities; 3 sisters-in-law: Darlene Hinton, Claudia Todd and Evelyn Meech; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Dick Pollock; husband, Larry; two sons: Dean and Charles and one great grandson, Trevor. Funeral services are planned for 11 AM Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Tom Friedl officiating. The music will be led by Annette Haas. The casket bearers will be grandsons and the honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters and great grandchildren. Interment will be made in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Monday, July 25 at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and will continue beginning one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
