Warren Joseph Fisher

January 14, 1921 — August 26, 2016

Warren Joseph Fisher, age 95, a long time Nevis, MN resident, peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, August 26, 2016 in his home north of Nevis, MN.                 Warren was born on January 14, 1921 in Sauk Rapids, MN to Joseph P. and Kathrine (Okonek) Fisher.  At a young age, he moved with his family to Minneapolis where he attended public school and grew into manhood.  As a young man, Warren was given the opportunity to attend the Minneapolis Institute of Art where his love of painting and drawing flourished.  In 1942, Warren entered the United States Navy where he proudly served his country as a hydraulics mechanic in charge of repairing PBY aircraft in the Pacific theatre of World War II.  After receiving his honorable discharge, Warren returned to Minneapolis where he worked in building construction as a lather for a number of years.  He also owned and operated an auto body shop for a time.  On December 4, 1957, Warren was united in marriage to Virginia May Wallen, a young widow who was already blessed with three children, whom Warren raised and loved as his own.  In addition, Warren and Virginia were blessed with two sons of their own, Thomas and Daniel.  In January of 1958, Warren and Virginia purchased the Gambles Store in Nevis, MN which they operated together in a career that spanned over 35 years. They were among the very first residents to make their home on Spider Lake north of Nevis.  Later, Warren turned his hardware store building into an antique store and loved to purchase, refurbish and sell antique furniture of all types.  Warren was proud to have restored the large Muskie many years ago in Nevis which stands yet today as a tribute to his deep sense of civic pride and caring for his community.  Throughout his life, Warren was a compassionate and loving person.  He enjoyed living at home on the lake right up until the time of his death.                 He will be lovingly remembered by his precious wife, Virginia still at home; his four children:  Teresa (Lon) Simpson of Nevis, Gail (Larry) Johnson of Wausau, WI, Thomas (LuCinda) Fisher of Nevis and Daniel (Jessica) Fisher of Bismarck, ND; many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; his sister, Margie Hensel of Texas and several precious nieces, nephews and cousins.                 Warren was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bruce Wallen and his brother-in-law, Ralph Hensel.      Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, September 1st, 2016 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Park Rapids with the Reverend Ken Mayberry officiating. The casket bearers will be: Christopher Fisher, Jordan Fisher, Tyler Booge, Nolan Booge, and Evan Booge. Interment will be made in the Resthaven Cemetery of Nevis. The Star of the North Marine Corps League will provide military honors. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday morning. The Seventh Day Adventist Church family will host a lunch for all following the service.
