    RUBY M. ROBERTS January 9, 1922  -  June 9, 2017             Ruby M. Roberts, age 95, a long time Menahga/Park Rapids, MN area resident, peacefully passed into eternal life on Friday evening, June 9th, 2017 at Rose Haven Assisted Living in Menahga with her loved ones at her side. Ruby was born on January 9, 1922, at her parents home in Evergreen Township in Becker County, MN to Martin and Grace (Baumgart) Bjornson.  As a girl, Ruby attended the District #75 country school near her home.  As a young woman, Ruby helped on her parents farm and also babysat and did farm chores for her neighbors.  On October 14, 1942, Ruby was united in marriage to Walter A. Roberts.  This union was blessed with two sons: Rodney and Daryl. The young couple engaged in farming with Walter's brothers in Spruce Grove Township.  Ruby devoted herself to making a warm and loving home for her husband and sons.  Ruby was a wonderful cook and baker who will long be remembered for her delicious homemade hot dishes, breads, cookies and her Impossible Pumpkin and Sour Cream Raisin Pies.  They continued farming until selling their farm in 1966.  At that time, Ruby and Walter built a new home in Wolf Lake.  Ruby was a childcare provider in her home for many years.   Ruby was a member of the Park Rapids Church of The Nazarene and was also a member of the Wolf Lake VFW Auxiliary.  Ruby always enjoyed dancing  to the old time dance  bands.  Each spring, Ruby looked forward to planting a vegetable garden which she would nurture into fruitful abundance to can for the needs of her growing family.  Ruby enjoyed her morning coffee time visits with her friends and neighbors.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988.  In May of 1995, Ruby moved into Park Rapids and became a resident of the Woodland Court Apartments. In June of 2012 she became a resident of Rose Haven Assisted Living where she quickly made many new friends and enjoyed living the final chapter of her life.  Above all, Ruby will be remembered for devotion to her family who she loved with all her heart. She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Rodney (Judy) Roberts of North Ft. Myers, FL and Daryl (Kathy) Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren: Dion (Shannon) Roberts of Coon Rapids; Kimberly (Patrick) Reichert of Colorado Springs, CO and Kristen (Jeff) Sorenson of Blaine, MN; six great-grandchildren:  Danica, Dacia, Sadie, Caity, Charolette and Jaxon; her sister, Pearl Courneya of Plymouth, MN and her brother, Pastor Loren (Lorretta) Bjornson of Clatfranie, Oregan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, her sister, Gladys and her brother, Mervin. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids with the Reverend David Cripe officiating.  Her casket bearers will be: Jody Bjornson, Patrick Reichert, Dion Roberts and Jeffry Sorenson.  Interment will be made in the Spruce Grove Union Cemetery near Wolf Lake, MN. A luncheon will be hosted by the Faithbridge church following the service. Kussatz in Menahga.  This union was blessed with three children: Luann, Sandra and Keith.  Mavis and Gordon made their home on the Iron Range where her husband worked in the taconite mines.  Mavis devoted herself to making a happy and loving home for her husband and children.  She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious home cooking.  Mavis was a woman of faith who was a long time member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Aurora, MN.  In 2001, Mavis and Gordon retired back to the Menahga area where they have resided right up to the present time.  Here Mavis was a faithful and involved member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Menahga.  Above all, she looked forward to spending time with her family who she loved with all her heart.                 She will be remembered by her loving husband, Gordon who has fulfilled her life for these past 49 years of marriage; her two daughters: Luann (Robert) Johnson of Mountain Iron, MN and Sandra Kussatz (John Saari) of Keewatin, MN; and her son, Keith Kussatz of Chisholm, MN; her five dearly loved grandchildren: Alexander Saari of Bloomington, MN, Melissa Johnson of Duluth, MN, Aaron Johnson of Mountain Iron, MN, Christiana Saari of Virginia, MN and Morgan Janke of Chisholm, MN; two great granddaughters: Aubree Entner of Virginia and Aurora Seglem of Duluth, MN; seven siblings: Arlene Seikkula of Menahga, Ellen Ruona of Menahga, MN, Harlin (Judy) Maaninga of Menahga, Carolyn (Robert) Condon of Butte, MT, Alice Kako of Menahga.
