July 16, 1922 — November 28, 2017

HAZEL DOT HACKER July 16, 1922 – November 28, 2017    Hazel Dot Hacker, age 95, a long time Park Rapids area resident, passed from this life to the glory of her permanent home in heaven, where she will never again feel pain or weakness. She died at her home surrounded by her loved ones in the early morning hours of Tuesday, November 28, 2017.    Hazel was born on July 16, 1922 in Jamestown, ND to Harry and Frieda (Pipenhagen) Maxhimer. As a girl, she moved with her family to Pine River, MN where she attended public school. As a young woman she married Murray Ernest Hurd in 1941. They were blessed with a daughter, Barbara and a son, Larry. Hazel devoted herself to making a loving home for her family. She was a wonderful cook and baker who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade breads, cinnamon rolls and cream puffs. In addition to caring for her family, Hazel worked for 17 years in the laundry and dietician departments at the Ah-Gwah-Ching State TB Sanitarium near Walker, MN. In June of 1969, Hazel was united in marriage to Delmar F. Hacker of Nevis, MN and they made their home just southeast of Park Rapids for many years. In addition to caring for her husband and home, Hazel also worked doing cleaning and office work for her daughter and son-in-laws business, Lake Country Cleaning for a number of years. Hazel also worked for Hubbard County assisting clients with managing their personal funds for a number of years. She also worked as a retail clerk for Bishop’s Department Store and for the Lampert Lumber Company in Park Rapids. In addition Hazel also worked as a Home Health Aid Practical Nurse for the St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Heritage Living Center both of Park Rapids. Above all, Hazel was a woman who put her faith in what her Savior, Jesus Christ did for her on the cross at Calvary. She loved to study the scriptures and grow in her knowledge of and closeness to her Savior. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Park Rapids for many years where she enjoyed serving as an AWANA leader teaching children the power of memorizing scriptures. Hazel’s heart was eternally connected with her love and soulmate, Delmar for almost 50 years of marriage and now will continue to be connected throughout eternity. She leaves a proud legacy as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother to a family who in return loved and respected her deeply.    She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Delmar F. Hacker of Park Rapids; and her daughter, Barbara Wheeler-Rasmussen who has been a huge part of Hazel’s life, also of Park Rapids; her three grandchildren: Russell (Stephanie) Wilkes of Utah, Lisa (John) Wilkes-Barber of Placerville, CA and Karen (Rob) Nudell of Frazee, MN as well as 4 dearly loved great grandchildren: Taylor and Madison Wilkes of Utah and Parker and Natalie Nudell of Frazee, MN; four step-grandchildren: Rocky and Chad Calveri and Joy Ann and John R.
