EVELYN RUTH MELIN May 18, 1922 – March 25, 2018    Evelyn (Mattson) Melin was born on May 18, 1922 in Sebeka, MN to Albert and Emma (Werth) Grewing. It was in the Sebeka area that she attended the Lucky Corners Country School through the eighth grade. She went on to attend the Sebeka High School. Evelyn was united in marriage to Avald Mattson on February 19, 1941. This union was blessed with one daughter, Bonnie. The young couple engaged in dairy farming southwest of Sebeka. They worked together to make the farm successful until May of 1969 when Avald’s death forced the sale of the property. Evelyn moved to Park Rapids in 1971 where she gained employment in the dietary department of the St. Joseph's Hospital. In 1973, Evelyn was united in marriage to Roy Melin of Menahga, MN. She and Roy enjoyed 21 years of retirement together- camping, hiking, fishing, watching the birds and caring for their beloved little dog, Blackie. In October of 1994, Roy passed away and Evelyn returned to Park Rapids making her home at the Woodland Court Apartments where she resided until declining health forced a move to the Heritage Living Center where she resided until the time of her death. Evelyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Akeley, MN.    Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Bonnie (Larry) Benham of Park Rapids; her four beloved grandchildren: Michael Benham of Park Rapids, Mindy (Butch) Clayton of Stillwater, MN, Marty (Cheri) Benham of Park Rapids and Matt (Niki Lueth) Benham of Park Rapids; four great granddaughters: Brandi, Emilie, Madison and Pauline and one great-great grandson, Kyler Benham; as well as other relatives and friends.    She was preceded in death by her husbands: Avald and Roy and her parents.    Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Akeley United Methodist Church in Akeley, MN with the Rev. Loren Ferch officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services. Interment will be made in the Sebeka West Cemetery.    “I have nothing to fear; and here my story ends.
