HAROLD LLOYD MONTZKA March 21, 1930 – April 1, 2018    Harold Lloyd Montzka, age 88, a long time Osage, MN area resident, peacefully but unexpectedly went into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 1st, 2018 at his winter home in Alamo, TX.    Harold was born on March 21, 1930 to Waldemar and Dorothy (McClintick) Montzka at the family home in Grey Eagle, MN. It was there that he attended public school, graduating from the Grey Eagle High School in 1948. After graduation, Harold entered the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country during the Korean War. After he left the Air Force he enlisted into the Air National Guard and continued up the ranks retiring with the rank of Major. After his honorable discharge, Harold returned to Minnesota where he married his high school sweetheart, Susan Hendrickson on June 5, 1953 in Minneapolis. Harold attended the University of Minnesota where he studied Industrial Arts and Electronics earning both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. After college, Harold began his teaching career at the St. Cloud Apollo High School. After some time, Harold moved his family to Mankato where he accepted a position teaching Industrial Arts and Electronics at the Mankato Technical College. After a number of years, he accepted a promotion to the Hibbing Technical College where he served as Assistant Director and also taught until his retirement in the mid-1990’s. During his teaching career, Harold was also involved in leadership positions with the MN National Guard where he served for 20 years. Harold was a man of faith and faithfully attended church in the communities his family was a part of, currently being active at Grace Community Church in Osage. Working together, Harold and Sue were Youth leaders and Sunday school teachers in their churches. He was also instrumental in providing leadership in four separate church building projects during his lifetime. He was an active and longtime member of the Osage Lions Club. Harold enjoyed the annual Montzka family fishing trips to Canada. He also headed up the Montzka family Labor Day reunion each year. For many years, Harold demonstrated his love and commitment to area youth by teaching many children how to waterski as he himself was an accomplished trick water skier. Harold loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed taking his family camping and snowmobiling. Above all, Harold devoted his life to his precious wife, Sue and treasured the time he could spend with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.    He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Diane Lenander of Akeley, MN; his son, Erik (Deborah) Montzka of Park Rapids along with his nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; two brothers: Carl (Lorna) Montzka of Buffalo, MN and Jack (Linda) Montzka of Alexandria; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.    Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue in 2016; his daughter, Zita Kendall; two sons-in-law: Tom Kendall and Dave Lenander; as well as two brothers: Dale and another brother in infancy.    Funeral services will be held 1 PM Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Grace Community Church in Osage with the Reverend Paul McKibben officiating. Dorothy Crook will be the pianist and the soloist will be Annette Haas. Casket bearers will be his grandsons: Blake Montzka, Justin Montzka, Kaden Resch, Mike Lenander, Chad Lenander and John Opheim. Honorary casket bearers will be the rest of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Military Honors will be provided by the Star of The North Marine Corps League under the command of Mr. David Free. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM Thursday evening at the Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids and will continue beginning one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.    To leave on line condolences or to view the video tribute please visit www.jonespearson.com
