BERNARD A. VOREL May 22nd, 1936 ~ July 2nd, 2018 Bernard A. Vorel, 82, Park Rapids, formerly Hackensack, MN, died Monday, July 2nd, 2018, in the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home, Menahga, MN. Bernard was born May 22nd, 1936 in Deer River, MN to Mildred Vorel. He graduated from the 12th grade in 1952 and one week later, enlisted into the Air Force during the Korean War. Bernie was honorably discharged in 1958. In 1959, Bernie married Shirley McKinney. This union was blessed with 5 children: David, Cheryl, Jeff, Tim and Steven. The young family lived in Jacobson for 3 years before moving to Hackensack in 1962. Bernie worked for Herb Lacey on a mink farm for 5 years before going to work with Bill Kramer at the Texaco Station for 17 years. He decided to open his own shop at his home for the next 4 years before he went to work at Lamb Weston/RDO for 7 ½ years and retired in 1999. It was at Lamb Weston/RDO that Bernie met Kitty Decker and the two were married in 1999. Bernie and Kitty lived in Hackensack for 9 years before moving to Park Rapids in 2009. Bernie is survived by his wife, Kitty; his sons: Jeff (Margaret) Vorel, Tim (Jan) Vorel and Steven (Vicki) Vorel; his daughter, Cheryl (Rob) Vorel; step-son, David (Bernie) Thompson; step-daughter, Kristy; 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mildred, his first wife, Shirley; step-father, Bill Schultz and grandson, Joseph Sexton.
